well it's at the shop again...

I just said "you're going to test it now with the instructions I have given"
"that will take some time sir"
"I have till tomorrow evening, I don't think you do"
"we'll test it right now"

first he came with heat problems..., rig has a Thermalright S1366 Extreme... and the CPU ran 27 degrees yesterday (celcius... soo)

and they stressed the CPU to 100% over 10 minutes no problemo...

but I've said check ALL the components with a big fat bold to PSU/Mobo, at least I hope the tech guy that will look at it will understand that now when they'll resume work on it.

I put my bet on the mobo having some really bad compatibility issues with ram. It seems to be VERY picky about the ram used.

"In this review, like our previous tests on X58, we installed Corsair’s triple channel DDR3-1600 modules which are designed specifically for the Core-i7. Boards from Asus ran these modules without any problems but on the EX58-UD5 we saw some issues with incorrect selection of memory timings when XMP was enabled and a few minor niggles such as sluggish BIOS screens."

could be  with the Corsair it crashed like every 10 minutes or immediately when log in screens appears...
with the OCZ platinum it crashed within the hour...

with either booting via safety mode it crashes right after "loading files"

also about the timings/voltage Panzer, it's said 1.5V in the BIOS and I looked it up in the manual it says when XMP disabled the Voltage goes to 1.5 automatically or something... dunno I don't have much knowledge about those things.

I'm pretty sure the OCZ ram needs 1.65V to work properly. Only very few DDR3 work stable on 1.5V. Might have to be set manually on 1.65V as the gigabyte board has issues setting it properly on auto
.

I personally had this issue with my nforce boards. The reason was compatibility issues with the mobo and too low voltage.

the OCZ RAM should run on 1.65 is said so on all sites, yet in the BIOS it said 1.5 so I don't know (but all settings were set on AUTO) and when selecting Manual and selecting "voltage DDR" I only get even numbers that I could choose (like 1.66 etc) I dunno maybe from place that I looked.

set it manually to around 1.65V. I could bet it helps a lot.

they have the rig now.. I could send them an email about it, maybe pointing them in the correct direction.

if we're 100% sure it isn't some other component tho.

Sounds like they don't know a lot about what they're doing then...

that was just because there are two Vista's installed, 1 was 50% when the rig crashed again (I tried to reinstall)

the other one was what they installed when it was put together.

sooner or later this needed to be done anyway, and if it crashes again they need to figure something out to make me a happy customer anyway..

I am not picking up that rig until I am 100% happy with it.

but with most hardware shops I have experience with they only listen to you with like half a ear... like Saturday I talked about rig crashing, cpu being cooled (which seemed to work I said), memory already being replaced etc... and then they went and checked for heat problems

for all I care they fuck off with the UD5 model mobo and put the P6T Asus in it or something.

but haven't heard from then since the HD question.

Yeah, that's the problem with shops that require some knowledge to work there. They think they know everything and the customer doesn't. You get it all the time at garages because the average person knows nothing about cars.

Update 2: They changed the Raptor. it's running idle now for 30 minutes there (clean vista install) I said run it for longer then 30 minutes.

Turns out it was the Raptor HD... (at least according to them)

they ran the rig for (I guess 2 hours now) so.. and it booted via safety mode...

so I guess nobody gets his money.

I do so love the bf2s tech forum.

One day you get a thread saying a 300W PSU will run set of hardware X, that requires AT LEAST 300W, will be just fine.

The next you get a thread saying the 600W PSU in set of hardware Y, that requires less than 600W, is the problem.

Do you people actually know what you're talking about or do you just randomly mash away at the keyboard?

I don't even take a glimpse at the wattage. It's totally something else that matters.

Yeah, amperage, particularly on the 12V line(s), is much more important. But until we can get reliable amperage requirements for individual components, wattage will have to do. And, it's not like the two aren't linked.

a good 300W PSU is like a 600W shitty one

Manufacturers have their ways of inflating wattage, and amperage as well. I browse reviews that include tests on particular PSU's. Watts don't matter, amperage gives a good guideline, but real values and reputation are the shit.

and just when you think the DRAMA is ovah!

ohh no ladies and gentleman NOOOOOOOO,  they found some pretty big fuck ups that the Gigabyte UD5 does in the BIOS...

so now they are changing the UD5 to the ASUS P6T X58....

so hopefully tonight...

something to do with the BIOS of that UD5 not seeming to work how it should...

I dunno dude, getting pretty tired of this shit.
