Hi guys, once again it's Christmas time and I have a nice work bonus heading my way.  Im getting a new car with most of it.. but have left myself some tech spending

Here's the deal though, I haven't quite read up alot on the new i7 and there seems to be plenty of you on here that seem to know what you are talking about.  I'm open to ideas however I have some rules.

1. No AMD

2. No ATI

3. No flaming just because I don't agree with your stand on those makers (I have my reasons, all of them being bad past experiences)

4. No I don't have extra to spend

5. I am open to shipping as long as the total inc shipping is still below target

6. I wanna make MAX drool (eat your heart out )

Because of my location I generally shop from these 2 places

www.pcshopper.com.au

how much is $2800 AU converted to USD?

I am in the same spot,
I have about $1200 USD to spend but can not decide if I should upgrade or replace.

You didnt list your spec so I can't really comment on you upgrading the existing machine or not.

If you have enough money for an i7 do that.

Why no ATi?

EDIT: Dumb question for him

If you want to make me drool you have no choice but to go i7, SLI and then fold on that rig *hint hint*

i7 920
P6T
2x2GB DDR3
260GTX x2
should fit that budget perfectly

shit, i7 920 not 929

I'd certainly get a full tower case. Something like a stacker, HAF932, Antec 1200 and similar.

What screen to get depends on what size you want. I'd go for 20-22 inch.  Samsung is always a good bet.

Mouse: G5 (inb4ted)

keyboard: anything with keys

It doesnt say that.  I read it and figured it was some sort of Nvidia fanboy rant:

but no matter the argument you will never see me change over to AMD or ATI.  I will spend my money as I please.  go to http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?pi … 0#p2408070 to see
That is to say, it's not as advertiesed.  Now that I look at it though, I wonder if this is shamless epeen waving rather than a request for help

To make sure I understand it.  You already own several C2D machines, and your wanting us to vote on whether or not you should buy/need another?

correct... i need another machine.  I just recently upgraded the downstairs computer up to a E8400, and new GTX280 and have sold it to my roommate.

sorry bell (and others) for the confusion. I should of been a little more clearer.

This new rig is either to go downstairs as the spare or replace my baby and putthat downstairs.

This is no epeen contest.  I seriously have dough to play with and love having the latest and greatest.

I'd wait for the next gen stuff to arrive. The new ATI cards and Deneb sure do look interesting. You have a good-enough (read: top-of-the-line) computer to get by for now, so there isn't much point in upgrading.

Also, you can't stick with just one manufacturer all the time, as the computer market is very, very fluctuating.

Remember 1998? No-one would even think about getting an AMD CPU back then.
Remember 2004? No-one would even think about getting an Intel CPU back then.
Remember 2008? No-one would even think about getting an AMD CPU today.
Remember 2009? No, you don't, as it isn't here yet, but this could be a year AMD gets back on track again.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Sounds fair enough.  So far as graphics cards are concerned, GTX 285 and the dual GTX 295 are due fairly soon.  The 285 should already be on sale, for some reason no retailers have received the cards despite them being in production for the last three or so weeks.  So far as the 295 is concerned, probably not going to see that till early next year.

Planning on running SLI?

And Freezer is right (<3), as much as I can appreciate the iritation, several failed components can bring (especially, if there from the same manufacturer), but, to automatically discount the alternative isnt the best idea in the world.

That doesn't make them obsolete.

he has got the moneys to go core i7 and gtx 260 sli so why would he need to wait for Deneb that is slower?

I would get XFX GTX 260/216 Black Edition. It has awsome price/performance.

you need more ram than 2GB. 4GB should be the next minimum for Core i7.

ok I'll be honest... I recently bought a Sapphire HD4850 512M 256-BIT GDDR3 PCIE2.0 2*DVI TVO HDMI from Umart for a friend (after years of staying away)... we had to return the first card because it was faulty out of the box (couldn't read the screen, it eventually died after 10mins).  The second card didn't even start.  The third one has worked prefectly however.. I have never had this trouble with any Nvidia product.  I know its weird but I hate the stuffing around.  Maybe they just don't like me...  lol

what if the NV card you get is faulty? You will use integrated gfx then?

EDIT: Also that cooler is not compatible with the LGA1366. You need different cooler.
