Thinking of buying a projector for Christmas for my family

Something around 500€, at least 1024x768, low power usage, long bulb life

Anything else I should know when buying a projector?

Thanks for your answers

Get one with motor-controlled focus/lens shift. It's really worth it.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

How does this work? I mean what are the benefits?

Means you don't have to get off your arse to change the focus/lens shift, probably.

Yeah. It saves you a_lot of time.

You shouldn't need something like that unless you adjust it 'a_lot.' If you're going to use it for a fixed home theater setup, it wouldn't be worth more cash if it came down to it, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to have.

Of course it isn't something necessary, but if you for example hang it in the ceiling, you're not gonna regret getting that feature.
