It can be done with Remote Desktop.
also, you need to install a program like
No-IP. then open / forward tcp port 3389 on your router. remember, it will probably be slower than what you expect, because most people have slower upload speed than download speed, and when you are connecting from outside, you are going to be uploading traffic from your home system.
also, if you don't want to leave remote desktop listening on the well known port of 3389 (it will be exposed to the internet when you open that port on your router) you can change it by going to this key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp
and changing the value on the right hand window called "PortNumber" to whatever you want (as long as it doesn't conflict with any other programs) aim high, most upper range ports aren't used very much. and make sure to change the entry method to decimal when you modify that key, unless you can convert hex in your head. oh and make sure the port your forward from your router is the same.
then all you have to do at work is fire up remote desktop, put in the hostname no-ip gave you, and add a :portnumber at the end of the name...
example: mycomputer.no-ip.com:3389
3389 is the default of course unless you changed it, and remember you dont have to change it if you want to keep things simple. if i have completely confused you, let me know and i'll try to explain it better.
