So yea I got bored and installed Fedora Core 10.

It took me a little while to get the installation right setting the different partitions. But, once I got it right it booted right up. This OS is a quick bugger. It sees almost all of my 4GBs of RAM.

I plan on installing a few other distros over the night trying out each one. I hoping to find a 64-Bit one soon.

Good job man. Let us know how it performs. Try installing some standard apps such as FF (if its not preinstalled already) or Winamp.

Well the good thing with Fedora it gives you the option to install some apps remotely during the OS installation. FireFox is one of them. I currently have version 3.0.4 installed.

My problem was getting the partitions right. There is a few extra things you need to do if you have Windows installed already.

that bit was easy for me

drivers on linux = hell, tbh (if you have strangeish hardware anyway)

(btw if anyone has a Netgera WPN111 wireless adapter working with linux, pm me )

Well Fedora had all my drivers already.

How do I have strange hardware? lol

Edit: Install apps in Linux is way to hard for the everyday user. This is why I hate Linux preachers.

qft. sometimes it's easy...if it's on the list. if it's not, you're fucked and have to use the CLI.

An Update..

Basicly, Linux runs great on my PC. Smooth as fuck and quick to load. But, damn its so hard to install programs on it. Not to mention if I wanted to restore the used space back to Windows I have to fix the MBR.(That was a bitch BTW.) But to give the space back to Windows was fairly easy under "Manage" when you right click My Computer. I still want to try out a 64-Bit version but will probably wait till I upgrade.

Hear ya there, cant seem to even get my creative x-fi drivers to work on there.... I've gotta post the read-me on here some time and get some direction....

Ubuntu > Fedora

Ubuntu is WAY faster for folding, like twice as much PPD and I couldn't even get the GPU client to work at all in Fed 10 (wine refused to connect through my network)

Also, apt-get > yum any day, as well as .deb > .rpm.

Installing applications in Linux isn't hard at all. Either get it through the package manager or a .deb / .rpm file. If neither exists and you have to use a source, in most cases it's as simple as:

./configure
make
sudo make install

done.
