The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

VLC
"people in ny have a general idea of how to drive. one of the pedals goes forward the other one prevents you from dying"
VLC is gay
quick time is shit
WMP11 + codecs tbh
(i have codes that work with everything in wmp, i've certainly played .mkv's which are HD, they're usually x264 yes?)

Don't get me wrong, I'm a WMP fanboy, but for watching videos, it's shit.
VLC for all video files. WMP for music.
The interface annoys me, as does the volume control, and the lack of video controls in full screen.FFLink13 wrote:

However it does have has loads of advanced settings that WMP doesn't
(not that i've ever really needed them )
I only use VLC for watching .flv's tbh
And iTunes for music, but that's because I have an iPod and therefore have to (winamp is dreadful so I'm not going to use that), although wouldn't mind using a combination of WMP and iTunes for music

As for the 360, you'll have to convert it to mp4. It'll keep the image quality, but you'll only get 2.0 sound instead of 5.1
WMP11 is great for playing .mkv but in 95% of all cases I can't select an other audio track and in VLC video sometimes interrupts and produces ugly artifacts which disappear after several seconds

I have always used VLC. Up until a few weeks ago when I found SMPLAYER. It's better, faster and supports more codecs than VLC.
VLC struggles to play WMV, MPEG and MKV files properly. With WMV it struggles to buffer the image when you skip to a certain part. MPEG it's the same. MKV it will stop playing if you skip too far ahead.
SMPLAYER is much better in my opinion. Try both and choose one. The skin on SMPLAYER is shit, but I usually just fullscreen.

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
