im thinking touch 16gb ($419)
if not ipod classic 120gb ($339)
or one of the new nano ones 16gb ($279)

iphone is out of the question

I got this one, because I have over 40gb of music, and the rest is videos.

You can convert dvd movies, avi, etc to mp4 format for your ipod, they'll be about half a gig and great quality with completely free software found here:

I do it all the time it's great.

Touch and nano are shit tbh, hardly any room for songs.

In my opinion (if price isn't too much of an issue) there are 2 main things you need to consider:

1) How much music you have and will have in the near future - there's no point getting a 16gb ipod touch if you've got 20gb of music, and also, do you really need 120gb of storage?

2) If you get a touch you will also get all the extra features - wifi, apps etc

I've got a 32gb touch and totally love it. I never thought it would be this useful. It's so much more than a music player.

how is the classic and the touch like to hold in your hand/pocket?

are they known to crap out after a while like the older ones?

do you get charged for using wifi?

tbh i never wanted an ipod, but i just lost my job, and its highly likely ill have to travel to syd if i have to get a job in syd (by train--an hour approx)

and he came into my room about an hour ago and said pick what ipod you want, im getting you one for xmas

so it will make my trip that little bit more enjoyable

ipod touch tbh, if you don't have much music, because wifi + apps would be win, and the larger screen is good.

And using your aforementioned laptop and if you want to be uber-1337, if your ipod gets full and you want music, take the laptop with you and sync on the train

Although if you have loads of music, classic would be a must, personally I would get a classic as i have 16gb of music, which (with the decimal/binary difference) wouldn't fit on a touch 16gb.

Well if you don't see yourself getting over 16gb over the next few years that shouldn't be an issue then.

The touch is really nice to hold, you can feel the quality, it's really slim too so it's fine in your pocket.

Wifi is free. There are wireless hotspots everywhere these days. Some places you have to pay to use their wifi (like in some cafes) but most are free.

at maccas its all free now isnt it, but they d/c you every 10 mins or so to stop people downloading shitloads (even though it doesnt matter if your using torrents..lol)

and if i was gonna take my laptop + touch whats the point of the touch, i could just take my laptop an listen straight from that

i think ill get the touch (if he wants to pay that much) because of the biggerscreen/apps/wifi thingy(even though i probly wont use it) and the ... touchyness
