Because it has nothing to do with Newegg, and everything to do with the shipping courier. It is a known fact that UPS plays keep-away with their boxes, I've never ever received a package from UPS that wasn't crushed or damaged in some way.
About the credit cards, take it up with whoever your credit card is issued from, to find out why it was rejected. Newegg doesn't randomly reject cards at will.
I'm not rapidly defensive, I just don't like seeing such an awesome company get belittled from ignorance.

Sounds like their HQ to me, but far be it for me to expect a wee little company (US$1.9bn/2007) to be responsible for something like that.
Off on a tangent, in UPS's defense, I've gotten good packages from them, and damaged ones from FedEx. Granted, the better came from FedEx. I had a college friend go to FedEx because the UPS trucks he was working in smelled like piss and feces.
Back on Newegg, again: I have no idea why the cards were rejected and they couldn't tell me (that's the bank's business, I suppose), but it was probably some sort of glitch, since I've been buying from other sites all this while. I imagine it's been sorted out by now. I am at this moment throwing components down on a chart based on prices from Newegg, and will buy from them if possible, but never again will I send them another check. So if I can't get a card payment to go through, I'll happily pay a few more bucks to buy from a combination of local shops and other websites.
Sure, Newegg's an awesome company. Awesome companies take criticism in stride. In this case, they took it with over-the-phone cluelessness or cut & paste e-mail responses. How many times do I have to be pointed out to a FAQ without an answer to my question? And even after I ordered a laptop from B&H Photo instead and asked Newegg to cancel that order (I couldn't, since they erased it from my account), they sent it anyway. I'm feeling like a broken record here, but it's as amazing as getting a bite weeks after you've stopped fishing. So now I have a laptop on the way with weeks old pricing that'd probably be outdated by MSI's cheaper upcoming 9500/M4850 whatsit. I'd like to have actually had something in my hot little hands (or even shipped) before I felt buyer's remorse.
Awesome or not, those are the facts. Don't get me wrong, I've been a proponent of Newegg for years, but slamming me for a bad experience makes you look like a viral Machead eager to flay someone with their iBuds.
Ignorance my foot.
