I really don't think I could watch a Tom Cruise movie anymore.
I think would be laughing at inappropriate scenes, imagining him losing it (yet again) and screaming out some inane line.
Y'know..
.. jumping up on a war-room planning table (or nearby couch), screaming
"I just Looooove this Fuhrer!!".. or perhaps, "The bomb is a
lie. Psychiatry, drugs, and bombs are a
lie."
There is a certain suspension of disbelief involved in watching a movie.
As an actor, there is a danger of becoming too closely identified with a role ("typecast"), making one unemployable in any future acting roles because the public will always see you as that
other character. If it's your insane character you play in real life.. you're truly screwed.
If you're Morgan Freeman - being type-cast as the All-knowing, sage, and wise elder black guy with a penchant for dropping pithy quotes at just the right time - you can make this work for you.
If you're Tom Cruise - prone to making insane outburts in public, being the spokesman for a fringe ponzi-scheme-pretending-to-be-a-religion, and generally playing the same two-dimensional character in every movie - yeah.. hang it up and go live off your savings. You're done here.
