Ok... so i got a Palit 1GB 4870 when i first did my build... and it didnt work.. i checked it all out (see http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?pi … 3#p2405023) but it wasnt working

now i got a replacement 4870 today... so i installed it.... tried to turn it on.... and what do u know it doesnt work! so i tried reseating it etc... put my 8600 back in to check everything else was working fine.

when i turn the computer on (with 4870 in) it take about 3-4 secs before anything even starts up... and then nothing comes up on the screen, computer is still running but nothing is happening...

i was wondering if it might be the power supply, i have a 650w antec truepower trio. the 4870 takes 2 6-pin connectors... i have 1x 6-pin and 1x 6-pin + 2-pin... would this be a problem? can someone help  me figure out the problem pleease?

otherwise im just sending the 4870 back AGAIN and hoping ill get a working one.

Remember you did try it in my computer and i have 850 watt, but that was with the fail first one.

Funny thing, I have this exact card in my computer, and had this exact problem, too.

Nothing to do with the card, though.

Check the connectors to the CPU.

Well, my 4850 had this problem, I simply unplugged everything to my motherboard and re plugged everything back in, sounds crazy I know, but it worked :s

What connections exactly? not the actual CPU seating i gather? i 4 pin connector near the CPU?

i don't like the amps your PSU outputs on its 12V rails.  i'm not a PSU expert but it doesn't seem like nearly enough power.  what PSU does Lawdy have?  just because it is 850W doesn't mean it's sufficient either.

I forget exactly what his is.... but its 850w and its a good brand (Antec or similar i think)...

EDIT: oh and i know this probably doesnt mean alot... but my PSU is on ATi's recommended crossfire PSU list.

i like the brand too, but i don't know the chances of you getting yet ANOTHER bad card.

as for the connector thing...using a 6 pin connector and 6 pins of an 8 pin connector should work, but can you try something else?  try using that real 6 pin connector your PSU has, and for the other one, plug in the 4 pin molex to 6 pin adapter that should have been included into an empty 4 pin molex connector from your PSU.  then plug both the 6 pin connectors into the card.  what you want to do is get everything so that each power "cord" or whatever has the least amount of devices taking energy from it possible.

yer i know what u mean.... and i had thought of that... however with my arrangement... freeing up 2 molex connectors will take a fair bit of effort.... so ill gonna try reconnecting everything tomorrow.... then ill try the molex adapter... then if that finally doesnt work ill take it to my favourite local computer shop let them do a full test of all components... if i need another PSU lawdy has a good 1000w one lying around lol

Silverstone ST85F 850W yeah i know because its 850 it doesnt mean its sufficient, its that it has more power then his and that "may" have made a difference

well it would be unlikely that it just happened to not work on 2 fairly decent pwer supplies... but that was the first card.. we havent tried the 2nd in ur rig yet... and we could even try ur 1000w in my rig... who knows.

Not yet. we tried his 8800GT in my rig and it worked fine. we will prob try my 4870 in his rig soon. if it doesnt work in that... i seriously cant see that it would be anything but the another faulty graphics card.

Ok tried the 4870 in his rig.... didnt work.... ithe fans spin and it gets warm... so i think power is definitely getting to it... its just not working... knowing my lucky they probably just sent me another faulty one cuz they didnt have any new ones in stock.

anyone else got suggestions etc? i can send it or take it to local computer store till the 5th of january because there not operating... so feel free to offer ideas until then

Producer. Send a hatemail to ATI or the subvendor of the card and I presume they'll be more than happy to offer you some goods to keep you happy
