GameSpot can blow it out their ass, MGS4 was a travesty of a 16 hour long film game.

I loved the MGS series but honestly, what the fuck was MGS4. I've have to endure many a shite-plot over the years of reading (terrible) novels and the like, but MGS4 takes the shit-biscuit easily; it falls prey to that typical Japanese videogame tradition of trying to do everything at the exact same time in every possible permutation. Keeping track of MGS4's storyline was like monitoring Paris Hilton's sex life, and by the end of the game with that fucking RIDICULOUSLY long cutscene, I honestly thought I would have more fun for my money by wanking off into tissues made from the texts of Wittgenstein.

How exactly was it even a MGS game? Ok it had the same pretentious and shitty storyline direction by the regular folks- only this time with the metaphorical bullshit-o-meter turned up to '11'. I think I spent all of about 2 hours actually sneaking around, and even then that was only because I purposefully prolonged the 'stealth' missions just to savour the gameplay. It was more like a terribly-done action shooter game that was about as refined as a quadriplegic's foxtrot.

I've played the series since the release day of the original title too, and my passionate love for the game series and close familiarity with all things MGS gives me license to say this game was shit. I would honestly more enjoy spending my hours doodling around in the puerile banality that is Little Big Planet. Look at this like this:

Yes, because MGS4 isn't over-rated, and doesn't just shamelessly use the MGS franchise with "little to no" stealth elements "tbh" . If the previous MGS titles hadn't done all the hard work with their popularity and success, MGS4 would have plopped into the turgid ocean of shit-videogame obscurity and would probably be reviewed on the same level as other terrible gimmick-shooters like that Haze game or what-the-fuck-ever.

It is. As are a lot of games out nowadays. Doesn't make them bad, though. It just means people hyped them up way too much.

Most overrated game this year I'd say was GTA IV, but it's still one of my favorite games in this generation of games.

Gametrailers is the only site on that list that's worth a damn because of just that, it's trailers of games. Gamesradar is the worse out of all of them if only for their shitty fan art section.

Pretty much every game this year disappointed me in some way or was an expansion (so it can't be GOTY).

I found MGS4 to be the best MGS to date. MGS1 was awesome, 2 was alright, 3 was alright. "little to no" stealth elements? are you kidding me, please explain how going through the entire game without killing people is not stealth? The gameplay was incredibly good. By far one of the funnest games this year.

The thing is about the first three... you're required to stealth. That little subtitle: Tactical Espionage Action, made sense. You had hardly any bullets or insufficient firepower to just waltz in all Gung-Ho and cut them down the alternative action-hero way. MGS4 kinda removes that fine-line of espionage-awesomeness and allows you to march through the game with a fully automatic weapon killing all of the (terribly coded) AI enemies with ease. Sure, you can sneak through the entire game without killing people... kinda. But all you're doing there is trying to emulate the gameplay of the original MGS games to great disadvantage and difficulty. Says a lot about the game.
