OK, sorry for spamming threads in the Tech section. I'd just much rather hear from folks who have the products rather than read reviews on sites and whatnot. Questions are easier to ask here.

Here are my choices for a 1GB HD 4870:
ASUS
Sapphire (Toxic is also in stock)
Palit

So ... ? I can post prices if you need them, but I would rather I get recommendations based on experience and personal knowledge.

Sapphire is all I've ever bought when I bought ATi cards, and I never had a problem with my Radeon 9600 or X1650Pro(both AGP, lol).  I'd go with Sapphire definitely over the other two.

Sapphire I seem to think have the best reputation, although Palit have often done some weird looking yet highly effective aftermarket coolers on their cards.

Yea? Hm. I really can't decide which one to get. The guy in the store recommended the Sapphire over both the Palit and the ASUS, though ... shame. I was almost going for an ASUS-themed computer, lol.

Get a Voodoo 5-5500 from 3dfx.

Isn't ASUS like completely shutting down soon?

I've still got one of them. Got a Voodoo 3 3000 too.

@OP: I'd go with Sapphire. Had a good few ASUS cards die on me and they took ages to RMA - but I did get a full refund, not a replacement, which is always much better.

Asus... best bundle out of the three...

I have had more than 6  Asus gfx cards in couple years and I love them all... I <3 Asus... although I didn't have any issues with the Sapphirs either.. I just prefer Asus over anything else...

and anyone complaining either of these companies having more doa cards than others... ALL of the cards come from the same factories... PC Partner...

edit: may I add that XFX HD 4800 Series cards are hitting stores any day now. 6th day for Finland...

My 4670 is Asus, and the cooler is so big it covers in total three slots on my mobo.

<33 27 degrees on load.

I've gone off XFX. Since I've had 2 of their cards die on me this December - one of which was a week out of warranty (wtf is up with their meagre 2 year warranties anyway (on my dead 8800GTS - which they have said they probably will RMA anyway), that's pitiful for a premium GPU manufacturer, my EVGA ones have 10 year warranty and my Zotac ones have 5 years).

ouch... that's very unlucky man... I thought they had like 3 years warranty?

edit: I see the Asus has 3 years warranty...

I thought XFX had decent warranties too. I was shocked when I found out. The chances of me not getting it replaced are slim though (I work doing warranty repairs and stuff and am very familiar with the procedures - if I make a fuss, they replace it).

Last Asus GPU I RMA'd took 18 months for me a get anything back. But, I did get a full refund on my shitty 5800, which had cost a fortune in the 1st place (and was virtually worthless when I did RMA it, so worked out well - eventually).

18 months! were the hell did u send it lol... I just do my RMA business with retail stores, not the manufacturers themselves. I always get my stuff RMA'ed in just couple days.

The supplier I got it from only dealt with returns for products for 12 months. Which meant I had to return direct to manufacturer. This is a few years ago when RMAing was not as smooth and simple as it usually is today - but nevertheless, it took ages. I'd completely forgotten about it - then I got a nice little chunk paid into my bank.

I got my 1GB 4870 a few weeks ago and I was also deciding between the Palit and the Sapphire, in the end I went with sapphire as they have a bigger/better reputation.

They don't make the Toxic in 1GB though.

And although the dual fans look nice, they don't cool much better than the Sapphire (I don't mean the stock blower fan, I mean the other one.)

Palit:

My Sapphire:

If you're going to get the Sapphire I would recommend you get the one on the top of this picture:

NOT the lame ass blower fan.
