testing my overclock and it seems i dont get any more ppd when i overclock my card in performance 3d mode. Is this the right mode ?

Currently at 620/1700/900 nvidia clocks on an 8800gtx via rivatuner and 74 degc. however i can hear the card capacitators squealing slightly more than at 620/1600/900 yet my ppd hasnt changed from 5351ppd project 5761.

why is that ???

Clock more.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I never see any difference with video card overclocking either.

I find it pretty useless.

oh lawl

on a 384, my 8800GTX at 575/900 does 4000 something ppd, while at 650/1000 it does 5000 something ppd.
on 353 it's 5000 to 6000.

I've only noticed it in benchmarks, but the difference isn't that significant

Kinda' like a 4.4GHz Processor ~ 3.5GHz.

I see quite a large difference with CPU overclocking.

Not so much a huge difference in FPS, but in other things such as encoding, compressing/uncompressing, load times, etc.

I got ~150 points different in 3DMark06 when overclocking from 625/990 to 675/1060.

lower end cards tend to have more OC headroom. That's where you'll see the most improvement.

If you're already CPU limited in the first place you obviously won't see any improvement.

Ontopic:
Yesterday I finished reflashing all my G92s to 600/1750/900 (c/s/m). That's right, only a shader OC and even dropped the memory on the GX2. Shader clocks are the only thing that matter when using fah. When I game on my GX2, I can always increase the clocks via riva tuner

Just flashed my cards:

8800GTX:
Stock: 575/1350/900
Overclock: 640/1500/1000

8800GTS (G92)
Stock: 650/1625/975
Overclock: 750/1875/1000

Should make a nice difference in F@H.

your 8800gtx should top out at around 1750 shader clock

Negative, over 1500 shader is when you start getting trouble, and that's with one of the best aftermarket air cooling there is, HR-03+

GPUs, just like CPUs, come in better or worse batches. Why do everyone keep forgetting that?

Just read that as: "4870 is a lot faster than 4670 regardless of clocks"
