Can't delete user profile on XP

So Finray got a new computer, so I thought "Great, I can delete his account so my computer loads straight to desktop while I make a cuppa". But now I can't delete his account.

I go into account settings, click his account, and click delete, then nothing happens. It just freezes and doesn't respond.

What is causing this and what can I do to delete it?

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

It's never too early to reformat. If this Windows install is since before you had the computer, it's rotting and falling apart since ages back.

The computer will feel twice as fast afterwards.

reboot to safe mode (reboot - keep tapping F8)
log into the "Administrator" account and try deleting from there. (make sure your new account has admin privileges)

or go into the more advanced user menu and try there:

start > run > control userpasswords2

my computer->properties-advanced system settings->user profiles->delete his profile

its possible that some process is running as him and windows kills it and it respawns (a.k.a. spyware etc) so this is what might be lead to a long wait. Also, check the size of profile (in the same area mentioned above) that can have some bearing on the wait.

Start > Run > control userpasswords2

1. Click you.
2. Untick box.
3. Click OK.
4. Put in password (if you have one).

Display Properties > Screen Saver
Untick box.
