Wow, I would be spending $30 a month more with AT&T than I would with Sprint. Guess I'm going to go with the Instinct.

Read the review on Engadget. You DO NOT want the Storm. One of the more conventional Blackberrys, sure, but not the Storm. Look into one of the Windows Mobile options, too. Try and get the newest WinMo OS, too.

If you were on a GSM carrier, your options would be much wider in regards to Samsung, Sony, HTC, etc.
This guy is 100% correct. Take it from a long time blackberry user with Verizon. I'm rocking the Curve right now and love it. Obviously i would rather have an iphone but verizon doesnt carry it and Verizon is the only carrier that gets a signal where i sit at in my work (they have a signal booster over my cube). I tested the storm the day it came out because i was anxious to pick up a nice touch screen phone and figured Blackberry would be a sure bet. Not so much, its very unresponsive and i hated the controls. Wait for an update on the phone or pick up a Curve.

I like the BlackBerry Curve, but the little scroll thing is fucking retarded, and I won't buy it because of that.

Nothing yet. I'm too damn picky.

I don't know. Only messed with it for a minute. What's good about it?
One thing that drove me nuts with the touch is that it auto corrects your spelling mistakes
jailbreak and turn it off.  it's so sad that apple doesn't even have a simple toggle for spellcheck, i hate it.

Verizon phones don't have SIM cards.
Really? So only Verizon phones can run the Verizon network?

Yes and no. You can get a Sprint phone to run on the Verizon network because they are both CDMA providers. If you happen to have one of the few phones on the market that has a GSM radio and a CDMA radio, you can work on any network, provided that you also have a SIM card slot to go with your GSM radio.

Blackberry has a few of those kinds of phones. I really want one of them ...

I have decided against the Storm. Going to check out the Omnia and Curve when I go to the store.
Omnia has a bad touch screen and is a bit slow, have a look at the Pixon instead, vastly superior phone.

Honestly phish, change providers. That's the only way that you are going to be able to get access to a lot of better phones that will do what you want them to do. Plus, you won't have to put up with VZW's bullshit OS they put on all their phones.

Yeah, my contract is up in March, and I'll probably be changing to Sprint. I would go with AT&T if they didn't rape you so hard in price.

Look at T-Mobile? I would look into getting off of CDMA altogether, tbh.

I'll look in to them, but I'm pretty sure they have shitty service.

Major, if you want a good smartphone that is not a Blackberry, you'll realize that GSM is the only way to go.

If nothing else, phish, buy an unlocked phone from eBay or whatever and then switch to any GSM carrier. Hell, if you want to wait until summer, I am coming back to Georgia around the end of June and can bring you something from Europe back that you can't get in the States (maybe something from HTC or whatever).

Sprint has HTC phones, and they're all trash. I'm not going to even think about phones until March when my contract runs out.

Well then that explains it.  I really only use my phone for texting and simple phone calls, in which I have found verizon to work best for.  It's also a plus that nearly every single one of my friends is verizon.

For what it's worth... I was in the same exact position as you and I got a Samsung Propel.  I almost went for the Storm, but decided to switch providers to AT&T and picked up a Propel instead.  It has 3G but you have to pay $30 a month for it.  So I just don't pay that premium (it's optional) - I don't need the internet on my phone anyway.  The phone was $80 with a service plan.  It has a qwerty keypad and it's great for texting.

LG makes really nice phones, too. They don't give you the full Internet and everything, but that's one thing I like about VZW is their LG phone selection.

Then get an iPod Touch. Tap into whatever wifi hotspots you are near and then you have Internet.
