I was having trouble connecting a device to my network, so I turned off the encryption for a few minutes just to see if that was the problem. I was going to put it straight back up, but I got side tracked with something and forgot about it.

When I came back to my computer, (only about a few hours later) I saw in my routers log that someone had connected to it, I didn't think that much of it at first, but obviously I turned the encryption and MAC filtering back on.

So anyway, that was yesterday, today I signed in to MSN (or Windows Live, if that's what you want to call it even though everyone still says MSN fyi) and went to check my e-mail.

It was really slow to connect, and when it did connect it said my password was wrong and it wanted me to type it in again, fuck that I thought, I signed in to the messenger ok, so it must have the password right.

I clicked it again, this time it wouldn't load the page, but it was trying to take me to http://hotmail.msn.com/

It's not loading at all now, but here is a cache snapshot of the page:

So it's probably my DNS that has been hacked right?

Should I just format or is there anything else I could/should do?

Doesn't work for me either now, but at first it did.

https://login.live.com/ looks legit, but I don't want to type my password in now that I know it's been messed with.

I was going to reformat soon anyway, and I'll definitely do it now within the next few hours, but I want to make sure there isn't anything else I can do first.

Run all your spyware software and see if it picks up anything.

Surely being https there'd be nothing to worry about?

Also I think you're paranoid. MSN is indeed doing maintenance as I'm getting messages of such.

Also the site that eventually leads from http://www.hotmail.com has new words.

Also try now. I just refreshed and my froggy pic is back instead of Generic MSN Man.

tbh I think it's a coincidence. They just rolled out some new messenger and they've had some downtime. Run your antispyware/AV and change the router password.

Looks like maintenance, however I am getting into hotmail...

But then again im in west coast america and your in england, totally different servers

I wouldnt worry too much

Call up someone you trust, tell them your password, have them try to log in, if they cant then you know its on Hotmails end... then just change ur PW once you get in

Make sure you have:
--WPA2 encryption
--at 128bit encryption
--randomized password with upper and lower-cased characters, numbers and special characters
--MAC filters to only allow computers in that you trust
--enable DoS protection if your router supports it

Do NOT use:
--WEP (it's flawed by design and can easily be hacked)
--encryption under 128bit (it can still be broken practically by brute force)
--non-random passwords, especially common words found in dictionaries or elsewhere (too easy for dictionary attacks)

if its slow to connect to just msn, it's probably a problem on their end.  if its slow for you to connect to all other sites, it is possible someone could be man-in-the-middle attacking you, or ARP cache poisoning your system.

if you suspect the latter, i can help you determine if that is in fact happening.
