I bought a new monitor about 2 months ago and retired my old Samsung 930BF. Now I decided to use the 930BF as a second monitor and it worked pretty good in the beginning, though it would some times take a few tries to get it running. The stand by light would flash erratically and the screen would remain black (no "Digital - Analog" window popping up) for a while.

Right now the monitor just doesn't turn on. I've let it sit there for atleast an hour as a second monitor as well as the only monitor and also on another computer and with other cables.

The monitor was on the floor for the past couple of months before I started using it again. Pretty sure it hasn't taken any hits and on the outside it looks like to be in perfect condition.

What might be up?

Will it not power on or not receive a signal from your GFX to come on?

NVIDIA control panel sees the display and I can set it to DualView from there, but the monitor remains black and the stand by light flickers.

Swap the cables, see if your main display comes on.

I've tried the old monitor with different cables and even on another computer.

I'd say something inside your monitor has snuffed it. Probably nothing major. If it's still under warranty, take it back and say something's not right. If it's not, take it to a local dealer or computer repair, they'll have a look at it.

I think it's 3 years old so the warranty is propably gone.
Will see if I can find a store that could take a look at it.

I remember reading that there was some chip in this monitor that likes to go boom at some point and it would be easy to check. Anyone know about that? Never taken a monitor apart

Wouldn't matter, because if he plugged the monitor into an old PC and it still didn't work that would rule out the gfx card.

Good idea, I'll give VGA a shot.

If I can't get it working I might be able to use the old consumer protection laws to extend my warranty. ("I've only used it the way it was meant to be used and it ceased working, so can i hav another one plz mr consumer protection guy?")

Pretty sure the back light has failed. Gonna see what the store/samsung can do about it. Thanks for the help

If it's the backlight you should probably be able to just about see an image on the display. Maybe try shinging a light on it while it's on.

Sorry to say, but it sounds dead. Try to RMA. Warranty providers can sometimes be very helpful in cases like this....

Sounds like the internal power supply to me. I had something similar happen to a 17" SONY.

Will check with the light. Anyway to see if the PSU is dead? Rather not open the thing because ít might cause trouble with the warranty.
(shops 3year warranty ran out 20 days ago good thing atleast in finland they are responsible of the stuff they sell even after the warranty rans out.)
