I am thinking about getting an external HDD when I come by some money again since my secondary drive seems to have given up on life and it's future is uncertain, my budget is ~500 DKK (£50), I would prefer a capacity as high as possible but my lowest point is 250Gb and my "overkill" limit starts getting close @ 600Gb, looks are not that important as long as it doesn't look like a grey plastic brick, the same applies for speed, as long as it is not super-slow old tech it should suffice.
And I would prefer higher-end brands if possible...

I will be using it mainly for backup and physical transportation of various data.

These are the two I have found so far:

WD MyBook 2.0 500Gb @ 598 DKK
http://www.edbpriser.dk/Products/Listpr … ?ID=404245
https://xpriserpic.edbindex.dk/ProductPictures/404245.jpg

WD Elements Desktop 650 Gb @ 585 DKK
http://www.edbpriser.dk/Products/Listpr … ?ID=479725
https://xpriserpic.edbindex.dk/ProductPictures/479725.jpg

ATM I am leaning against the 650Gb one simply because of the higher capacity @ a slightly lower price.

Note: Keep in mind that Danish prices are somewhat higher than the American ones, so don't suggest something that tops or gets close to the budget limit in USD.

Don't buy an external HDD. Buy an enclosure. I did that and I find it really useful, I can have HDD's inside the machine (if i want to install an OS on it, or if i run out of USB ports ) and it's also slightly cheaper for high capacity drives to have internal + USB/eSata enclosure rather than just an external HDD.

Yeah I searched for that too, but tbh when I made it through the maze of compabilities, sata speeds etc. I came to the conclusion that I went for a pre-made external HDD instead of using an eSATA plug which is useless if I need to down-/upload something from a laptop/failPC
USB 2.0 is fine tbh

And tbh I think I have enough room for different OSs if I re-partition my 1TB Samsung SpinPoint F1

tbh the ones I looked at were 2.5" HDDs and enclosures since I like the handyness of the size... more expensive though

I have a enclosure as well and its fucking loud. WD is silent, mine is matt and doesn't get scratched or dirty fast. Its biggest enemy is dust.

Do it, I freaking love it

I actually got it at ½ price since the place where I work spare time acidentally sold the Western Digital Raptor 36Gb 10.000 RPM I used to have when I got a new one on warranty (they sold the new one ), they then offered me a 1Tb F1 for allmost nothing
btw the F1 is faster than a 10.000rpm Raptor

Right now I think it is bored...

I only have COD4 and windows on it atm since my other HDD broke last week and I had to reformat...
cba to install everything and move it all in when I am doing a new reformat next week on my new pc

Nonononono.

I'd rather pay my tax instead of spending an entire day just to fetch a HDD,,,

Lacie? never heard of it... think they were amongst the HDDs I looked at, scrolled right past them because they are so unknown

My iMicro is fail, it has a 500GB Samsung inside it, but after a couple of months of usage, it only starts up 1/30 of the time you turn it on, so a lot of switch-flicking is needed to get it to run.

who would want to go to that shithole? At least when I was born they still had a wall around the bad places, now the residents roam free

Hamburg tbh
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

They're not unknown at all... They make equipment mostly for big companies and servers, stuff like that where they need to be more reliable than the average consumer product.  I didn't know them before either but they're actually really reputable.

Its one word on my drive and manual.

Plus if you knew anything about Canada you would know that Quebec, AND ONLY QUEBEC, is French at all.  The rest of Canada hates Quebec and the French.
