Can't be Gigabyte or Asustek, and ECS's are so cheap someone will always buy them. Must be MSI

How come I've never heard about ECS? I have owned a mobo from ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI, but never even HEARD about ECS.

ECS is a cheap newcomer. Only a couple of years old, and with worse build quality than MSI.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

But their price is so low they sell just on the fact "hey... as long as it works"... means MSI is fucked as they cost more but certainly quality is almost on par with ECS lately.

edit: like the MSI X58 Eclipse board that costs over 300€ but went BOOM in the review at MuroBBS.

I've only seen them the last couple of years.

EDIT: Ah, Wikipedia'd it. ECS only made OEM boards up to 2005. That's why I haven't seen them.

Additionally, shipments of motherboards and graphics cards have been on the decline since the third quarter of 2008 indicating that the market will not see any further expansion, Lu said.
I wonder if a recession might have anything to do with that, rather than a larger market trend. He apparently doesn't understand the concept of normal and inferior goods, and how the demand for normal goods might decrease when consumer incomes decrease.

Considering MSI hiring practices, if his prediction luckily becomes true, I don't doubt it would be them.

This isn't good news guys. We want more motherboard manufacturers so we have better competition and better products.

Yes, it is not good. Fortunately, since the guy is basing his entire premise that the motherboard market is tanking on a short-term economic fluctuation, it is very likely he is completely wrong.

MSI products have zero impact on dropping the prices and especially not getting better quality.

Gigabyte and Asus are battling really hard together and that will keep the product evolution fast as well as keep prices reasonable.

MSI has dropped out of the quality bandwagon long time ago.

I keep hearing all the time how       'I have a problem. I have MSi...help?'

If they would disappear, there would be far less issues needing help.
