About a month ago I spilled a beer on my Sager NP5760 laptop. It was mostly around the upper left corner, so near the DVD drive. I turned the computer off more or less as soon as I could, and didn't try to turn it on again ... until the next day. I guess it wasn't fully dried. I know now that was probably a really bad idea. Anyway, it booted up and started beeping, a lot.

I haven't really touched it since. When I try to turn it on now, the splash screen that says Sager and has a red progress bar comes up and the bar gets all the way to full and then it just doesn't do anything else.

I took off the keyboard and plugged it back in, and since then I can enter BIOS again. But when I try to re-set the boot order (press right arrow a few times then the enter key) it starts to beep again.

So there's pretty clearly something wrong and I have no idea what part(s) is/are broken. How can I go about finding out what I need to replace/fix? I am NOT very saavy at hardware related issues, especially with laptops, I just know how to google and follow directions, soooo....

-Thanks

I think you spilled bear over it.
Just take it to the place you bought it.I wouldn't recommend playing with it if you're not very good with computers + laptops are even trickier

There's a good chance that it's already corroded\rusted and fucked a lot of your connections.

When I was in the Navy I spilled a large coffee on a jettison control panel of an Ohio class submarine.  They took it out and soaked it in a DI water bath for a day or so, and then let it dry for several more days.  Worked just fine after that, we think.  Never really had to use the jettison control panel.

I'd suspect that those were built with the condition that they would get wet and need to be easily repairable should that occur since this was a submarine you were in.

How mad at you were they? lol

Would have sucked if you had needed it.

You obviously don't know how the whole submarine thing works.  We liked to keep the water on the outside of the thing.

All the electronics on those things were designed in the 70's.  Nothing inside was what you would call "washdown" type equipment.

Not so much.  We were in dry dock and the boat and all the components were the shipyards responsibility at the time.

Umm, I was drinking, and the beer was next to my computer, and when I went to pick it up, I spilled it. It's rather easy to do with longnecks. I live in an apartment, my computer is on the table, which is conveniently placed so you can put drinks on it while watching TV. Accidents happen. I don't keep drinks near the computer anymore, but you can't go back in the past. Have anything helpful to add?

I've dealt with a few of those in the last few months here at work.  The bottom line is that your motherboard has likely been damaged, and unless this is a very new, very expensive laptop, it may not be worth fixing.  In fact, a friend just had her son spill a glass of wine into her laptop and fried the mobo.  Repair cost was $500.

Really the only time I've ever seen a laptop survive such a spill is when it occurred while the computer was off.  When they are on the liquid conducts the electricity and almost always fries the board.
