Sorry but most good music isn't played on the radio you should know that if you have any idea of what actual music is.
I don't remember the last time I heard Sephiroth, Flesh Field or Reaper on the radio, Mr. Elitist.
I don't remember the last time I gave a fuck.

It's about lyrical content and artistic contrivedness, not about elitism or how "underground and kewl" a band is. I said it was pseudo-political punk but that's exactly what it is. I think descending into an argument over what constitutes 'real punk man, from the heart' is totally off the mark. If someone wants to listen to Rise Against... by my guest, they're a gateway band for a lot of clueless and uninitiated teens. But damn whoever considers their lyrics to a serious-enough extent that they're willing to create a thread about it... I could derive greater themes and motifs from the Mr.Men books.

And haffey stop crying, baby. You tried to be a dry-witted little gobshite for no reason other than the fact your reading ability sucks. Go read a book and widen your vocabulary past casual-trite 11 year old conversation. I'm not going to be insulted by your immature anti-intellectualism (omg a word with more than one syllable, confused confused confused!) or your /fail attempts at trolling. Don't try and call me out to then respond with "why you so mean all the time?". Yawn.

Which is exactly my point. No one cares, so elitist dicks like MetaL are wasting their time.

I enjoy them because they make his post more intriguing, less generic and truthful.

Dude, read what I am fucking writing. I do not consider them to be deep or meaningful in anyway at all. Period. I am not angsty, I am not teen. All I am saying is that the lyrics to that song come off as being pretty offensive to soldiers. I did not want this to become some fucking debate on the exact meaning of each word. If Rise Against wrote a song about how 9/11 was fucking awesome, I would make a thread about that too, not because they wrote some amazing lyrics to convey this, but because it's pretty controversial. This is the same for this song, just on a different subject. Stop being a condescending cunt for a change and read and address my posts properly.

PS. Do your professors give you bonus points for every time you write 'pseudo' in an essay?

Rise Against are fags that produce fabricated music with pseudo political lyrics that are a main target for angst ridden teenagers who shop at hot topic.

I think it doesn't matter how you interpret it because Rage Against have given it even less thought than you. Uzique is being a complete fag but I do agree with the point he's making, Rise Against suck and any message/offence you garner from it is entirely your own (fault).

I love Uzique.

More on topic: I'd give my opinion on the lyrics if I can listen to more that 5 seconds of that song.

I suppose I could just read the lyrics...oh well.

ugh

It's anti-war and maybe anti-military, but not anti-troops

The first part about seeing the world refers to how recruiters paint a pretty picture of military life, while not talking much about war or dying (which makes sense, since it's harder to sell joining the military to someone if you keep saying "you might die")

The black leather boots part talks about how he started off his military career enjoying it.  The chorus this first time is his idealization of how people will think of him when he returns from war. A hero. Who doesn't want honor?

The kicking in the door part is pretty simple: they raided a house and took one of the people in there prisoner. I guess he was suspected a terrorist or something.

The part about beating him is a reference to Abu Ghraib. It also shows how even a good guy like the protagonist, who initially told the other soldiers to stop, might not do the honorable thing cause of war.

The second time, the chorus could be seen as a juxtaposition of what he just did. He wants to be seen as a brave soldier, a man of honor, a hero of war. Yet he just degraded and beat up this guy.

The part about shooting the lady is about how he really didn't want to shoot her, and he tried to stop her, but for all he knew she had a bomb so it was either him or her. He then realizes she was carrying a white flag, which as you know is the surrender flag.

The third time he sings the chorus, look at something very important. He brings home the flag for one. And then he says "It's the only flag I trust", which I think is referring not to the flag of his country but the flag of surrender... of not fighting... of peace.

So it's not really anti-troop, just anti-war and anti-"the man"

I would honestly shoot a woman if I thought she had a bomb strapped to her. I prefer my life over lives of people I don't know.

I also like how this thread is turning into a discussion about musical opinions.
"My music is better than your music!"
"No its not!"

Whine, whine, whine.
