Had a little bit of a f-up getting ready to install windows 7 beta.
Previously had windows xp media dual booting with ubuntu through grub 1.5. Because I've got a bit going on right now, I didnt have time to learn ubuntu and decided to get rid of it to open up some room for windows 7. I used Easeus Partition manager to remove the partition.
Unfortunatly my comp still boots with grub 1.5 which now reads nothing and wont boot, I get grub error 17.
Any way to fix this, apparently having a xp boot cd is what you need. These are the instructions I found:
You need to go into the BIOS and set the CD to be the first device to boot, put the hard drive second.
Do you have Windows installed already? If so, boot from the CD, enter the recovery console (press R when it asks you whether you want to install windows etc.) When you're at the console, type:
fixmbr
and that will remove GRUB from your system.
If you don't have Windows installed, GRUB will be overwritten as part of the installation.
Question is: Anyone know if I could use the windows 7 beta dvd to do this, since I cant find a xp cd atm?
Thanks,
Nic
