Hi,

I'm about to buy my first Xbox 360.
I'd like to know some answers on my questions.

1) I was planning to get the elite xbox : http://www.freerecordshop.nl/is-bin/INT … tegory=all
Is this one fine? Not overpriced etc.
EDIT: or is this one better for Price/Performance : http://www.freerecordshop.nl/is-bin/INT … ;SubCat=03
2) About the internet connection:
-What can I do with it? (online gaming, or just surfing?)
-How do I connect it? Is it trough my PC provider? If so, do I need to pay extra for it then?
-I don't have a wireless router, so do I need to get cables from my PC to my TV? The distance between those is about 20m (of cable).

3) What'r the top games?
-I wanna buy Guiter Hero (Especially for that guitar :p)
-I already have CoD WaW for pc ...
-I'm about to buy fall out 3 and far cry 2

thanks,

reborn

hi

1)The Elite is 120GB, while the Pro is 60GB
I personally have the Pro and I still have 40GB left, it depends if you want to store music, games, videos on your HD thats the only reason you would probably want to decide on those 2 is the space you need.
2)-You can talk w/ your via headset/typing to anyone, Online gaming is what the 360 is for, you can't surf the web if thats what you mean.
-You just connect it from router to 360 w/ a ethernet cable.
-Unless your modem has extra ethernet slots I think you'll be needing a router right? if you do get a router get a ethernet cable its way cheaper then a wireless adapter for the 360(Someone help me on this one)
3) If you want to buy guitar hero just for the guitar why not just buy the actual guitar?
After hearing peoples reviews I think you should get Fall out 3 and not FC2?? right??
/hope this useless post helps lolollol

He said he wants FO3 and FC2, not or. If his computer is enough to run them decently, I'd say it'd be better to get the PC versions and stick to console exclusives for the 360 for the time being.

As a matter of fact, the prices have evened out as of late for wired and wireless routers. I'd recommend a wireless router, as they're about the same price and you can use it as a wired anyway...

Unless the OP already has a wired router, in which case I'd run some CAT5e. This is purely objective, though. The distance from the 360 to the router may require a reel of CAT5e, some tools, and a bit of internet research and more trial and error if you're new at wiring. Even if a connection-ready cable can be found for a long length, it's still another hefty chunk of cash. Time and costs can add up, especially if there's someone in your house who hates the Borgish sight of wires drawn everywhere outside the walls.

OP: I use the D-Link (which I also have CAT5e running out of) at home and Rosewill at the office to decent effect. The downside is that wireless isn't always as reliable as wired, but is pretty good for remote devices. If you plan to game online a ton with the 360, I don't think there's any avoiding it.

I thought the solution would've been easier/cheaper...
I'm not allowed to do it by wiring (to much visible cables then)
I can't afford myself a wireless router togheter with an xbox and some games..

So..
And I suppose its not recommended to buy an xbox just for single-gameplay (= no multiplayer at all)

This is most likely a useless post, but anyway, you could plug your xbox to your computer to get internet and use your computer monitor for the screen. You would get internet and you wouldn't see any visible cables.

Elite is worth it. Bigger HD, and i've used about 50% of it already
Net connection works via ethernet that goes in the back of the xbox, or you can buy a wireless adapter if you have a wireless network around. Xbox live costs, i think it's about £40 a year for me, not entirely sure. When cabled up to the internet it allows you to download game updates, buy games online, rent movies, view videos and previews posted by game devs and other players etc, and of course allows you to play games online.

Games to have probably include halo3, CoD4/5, GoW2, Guitar hero, and PGR4/forza 2.

Let me know if you want any other advice!

PS3 has free online, and a built-in wireless adapter.

Just throwing that out there...also I'd suggest getting FO3 & FC2 for PC, for X360 get racing games (if you don't have a wheel), sports games (skate, anything else) and console exclusives (like Ted is saying)

TBH, I'd buy Rock Band 2 over GH:WT if I were you.

Depends on the country lol. over here they didnt release rock band for over a year after american release. then they upped the price and made us buy the game and instruments seperately. so i was like "Fuck it, GH has been good to me"

Slash FO3 and FC2 for a later date, and there's your router money. If you're not allowed to compensate for ugly wiring by using baseboard cable routers or pull cable through the walls and ceiling, then wireless it is.

I don't know about the physical layout of your place, or if you already have a wired router by your cable/DSL modem, where your computer is or where your TV is, so I can't be of too much help there. But it looks like aesthetics are going to be a limitation.

Personally, I have a PS3 (and a Wii on the way), but I don't have much of a use for the online components other than store exclusives and firmware updates. If you want to game online, I'd say the PS3 or PC's going to be your choice, but I'd then bear the unconscionable wrath of the XBoxxers (sorry guys, I'll get Fable 2 on PC).

That is an option... But then I'd better just don't buy it... I can play the newest games on my pc.

I wanted to buy an Xbox especialy for our Bose surround system and our big Flat Tv.. That must be awesome

So.. I might just buy an xbox , but won't connect internet.

Edit: Or when we get wireless internet..

Your last option's the best. Save it for when you get a wireless router, but I wouldn't want to game on something that's specifically wireless to begin with.

He wants an xbox 360, and you can't count on PSN to be free forever

The xbox 360 has an achievement system for its, but if you don't care about that then go for whatever version you want.

I'm "upgrading" my 360 premium to a 360 (Jasper) Elite this week as well. I've been lucky to not get the RRoD on an '06 model, but I'm going to ensure I never do.

X360 has tons of awesome games that are fun for singleplayer. For instance, I only play GOW2 Horde occasionally, the singleplayer is much more fun.

If you have a good wireless card like the one in the PS3 and my laptop (dunno how good the 360 one is) and a good wireless router then wireless is just as good for gaming, I get pings of <10 on my laptop with steam games and I have no lag myself on PSN other than games which just generally are laggy online.

I actually will sell it to you if you want. It's been quite reliable for me and is still under warranty until Dec. of this year.

Mine works fine if you only want to play the same game for an hour.

Is it possible to do the following:

-Connect the Xbox on my Pc screen and ethernet cable (For Multiplay etc.) and download some games for putting on the Harddisk that's in it.
-Connect the Xbox on my Tv (for Singleplay) and use the games that I downloaded on the harddisk.

I know that this is not allowed, but is a possibility?
