Hehe The fact that you do not understand makes the irony too much to handle.
Let's be realistic, reading is not even remotely an art. It is a basic form of comprehension, that yes, sadly not many master.
And there is nothing ironic about him not understanding what you meant by saying reading comprehension is a lost art. Do you even know what irony is?
I see it was lost on you, as well. Moreover, one could say that reading comprehension is indeed an art. Can you read and understand Shakespeare? Some can, some cannot. To those who can, it can be said it is an art to be able to do so. Subjective, yes, but could be regarded as such, nonetheless.
In addition, the irony of it all was I was talking about the mentality of some people in this game, and by his "knifing everyone" statement, he proved himself one of those people. THAT, my friend, is irony.
I am an English minor; please do not try to battle wits with me about irony and such.
Yes, I suppose that subjectively, it could be considered an art. So can picking my nose. And for the record, not that it matters much, there isn't much more to reading Shakespeare than an 8th grade science book. I'd say that reading Shakespeare is more an issue of vocabulary or an understanding of the dialect, as opposed to reading comprehension in general. I might add, that the term "reading comprehension" is extremely general, and subjectively could refer to any number of things, including but not limited to: grammar, vocabulary, dialect, style, etc. Anyhow.
So, your reference to irony then had nothing to do with the fact that he did not get what you were saying? So, like I said, it wasn't irony after all.
In reference to your "correction" on what you thought was ironic, even his statement was not ironic, he merely disagrees with your take that the elitist attitude people have s bullshit. His statement about knifing people has no irony in it at all, even given that it was a response to your statement.
English minor, how impressive. Ask one of your teachers about irony, because it's apparent you don't have a firm grasp on it.
I love how people try to rattle off some form of qualification in an attempt to "win" an argument, on the Internet of all places. Battle wits, that's rich.
An example of irony would be a blind man stuck in the wilderness for weeks with his seeing eye dog, and killing/eating his dog to stay alive, only to end up dying because he couldn't find his way back to civilization without the dog. What are you, a first year college student? You act as though mere enrollment in a school system is enough to make you master of the english language, when it's apparently only enough to make you look foolish.
Anyhow, enough OT for me.
Sorry for the rant, I just hate how people try to lecture others about their grasp of the english language, when they have no real grasp of it themselves. That is irony, I believe it is called socratic irony.
