Alright so my build is nearing completion (RE: yet to buy anything no money YET lol ) and I am Set on basically everything but the memory...

Right now I plan on getting a 4gb kit to top out on windows 32bit XP, and the standard for the P5Q is like 1200/1066 but 1200 is too damn expensive/rare so i'm stepping down to 1066, and I plan on OCing the e8400 I'm getting , so I need a good brand to help OC with it (does memory auto overclock with the FSB like old mobos/systems, namely this 939 system overclocks DRAM speeds if the FSB is OC'd)

I was going to get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820145214 , but i'm not sure how far that memory will go (if of course i'm going to need memory that needs to be OC'd with the processor, I'm not really a memory overclocker so yeah.)

is it really just personal preference >_>? price doesn't really matter, 4gb under $100 USD is really my guideline if you have any experience with nice performance memory

Yes the memory auto oc's with upping the FSB.  Since 1066 runs @ 533x2 and your chips fsb is 333x4 (1333 FSB) you have plenty of oc room.  running with out memory dividers 1066 will go beyond what your chip will (you'd have to top 4.8 ghz)

what you posted is slightly better due to slightly lower timings, but i think they make 4-4-4-12 too.  not sure if they make that for 1066 MHz RAM though.

I doubt you'll be going above 533FSB so DDR2-1066 will do for any OCing you may want to do. Just get the cheapest 2x2GB kit with decent timings (CAS5 or lower)

while on the subject of OCing fsb lol

how much do you think I can OC the e8400 on a P5Q pro with any of the aforementioned memory? (cooler will be a sunbeam core contact freezer, and a fully outfitted antec 300, 4 120s, 1 140mm)

was aiming for 4.0GHZ but yeah >_>

i think you'll hit 4 easily.

I hit 4GHz on my e8400 with p5q-pro and OCZ vendetta 2 cooler easily.  i think i got a great overlocking chip as im running only 1.28 vcore and its completely stable.  it idles around 38C which isnt to bad considering my room temp is 28-32C

DDR2-1066 will give you a max theoretical CPU clock of 4.8GHz, DDR2-1200 will give you a max theoretical CPU clock of 5.4GHz

Every chip is different but I guess you'll hit 4.0-4.4ish while staying with reasonable volts

What about 800MHz memory?

I was thinking of OC'ing my e8400 soon, now that I've got everything setup...

400x9 = 3.6GHz

To hit higher clocks you'll need to OC the memory (2.3V, loosen timings and push )
