I'm upgrading with the next 2 weeks and I was possibly looking at getting a new video card as well.  I have a 8800GT 512MB right now.  I play mostly DoDs, COD5, and Fallout 3.  I have a 1680x1050 resolution monitor as well. Thanks!

E8400 @ 3.6Ghz
P5Q Pro
4GBs DDR 800

Around $225 for video card.

HD4870 512MB/1GB or GTX 260 216.

For 1680x1050 the 4870 512MB should do nicely.

That looks pretty ok.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

rebates don't matter when you only have just enough cash on hand

i'm saying that the price difference straight up is $15.  later on, you will most probably get either rebate depending on the card you ordered, but you probably earned more money anyway so...

XFX has DOUBLE lifetime warranty, may i add? <3 that company.

i would still go with the sapphire though.  Toxic cooler > stock.

Sapphire only has a 3 year warranty, and it's a PITA.

XFX has double lifetime warranty, so say you sell the card...the buyer also has lifetime warranty. Plus, they are awesomely good at honoring warranty's.

The newer stock coolers work fine really. I've only ever owned Sapphire, but my next buy will be XFX. They own.

i just mentioned the double warranty...i'm a 3 time XFX owner, only a one time Sapphire owner.  by the time my 3 years are up though, god, i better be onto another card.

i bought the card that maxed out my budget to "future-proof" myself, but i know that future is only going to be maybe 2 years at MOST.  dunno what Naturn wants.

So which is it?  XFX or Sapphire?  Sapphire is cheaper though.

1) can you overclock by yourself?
2) do you plan to switch cards before your 3 years are up?
3) do you plan to resell the card at all?
4) is cooling a factor?  (do you plan to overclock more?)
5) is the price difference a factor?
