Yes yes, CGI...but it looks fucking awesome. The 40's and 50's in NYC have always been one of my favorite historical time periods (probably why I love Fallout 3 so much, all the 50's styled stuff), and I'm a huge GTA IV fan, so the combination of the two really looks great.

Looking like one of the better 2009 releases, that's for sure.

Edit: Wait a minute. Apparentely, those graphics are actually real time in-engine. Holy fuck.

Yeah, I had a message typed up about how bad CG trailers are and how dumb you were for wanting a game based on a CG trailer, then I watched it, and it was not Cg. Also not that impressive.

I'll keep an eye on it, could be good.

I still don't get your hate on CGI trailers. I'm not dumb for thinking a game looks interesting based on a CGI trailer. It sets up the plot, setting and characters of a game. I think you fail to realize sometimes that not all of a video game is based around gameplay, and gameplay isn't the only thing people care about.

Fine, even if it's about graphics, a CG trailer is not a representation of the game's graphics.

If it's about plotline, is it really that helpful that you see the mafiosos? I mean, I couldn't tell from the title that it was about the mafia.

What do CG trailers tell you about a game that a gameplay trailer couldn't do better?

A lot more, and it's a lot better looking and easier to follow. Why on Earth would they want to show gameplay 10 months from release? That'd be just stupid.

Why do they have to hype it 10 months before release?

And "A lot more" is a pretty vague answer that really doesn't help.

Sure it's better looking, what if a cheap movie studio hired a bunch of shitty actors for their movie, but a bunch of professionals to do the trailer. Would that give you an accurate idea of whether the movie was worth seeing?

...lol

Oh I dunno, maybe to get people excited for the game?

The same reason they released the following trailer for The Dark Knight.

If the plot, characters, gameplay etc. are anywhere as near as good as the first Mafia, this game will fucking rule!!
Also for the time the graphics were excellent imo still stand alright to this day, so really looking forward to this...

The first one was great. Anyone else remember that shortcut during the race circuit? haha

And the ending was brilliant getting gun down with a shotgun. The weapons were all unique and behaved differently unlike some games.

I'm looking forward to M2 a lot.

Poseidon and Miggle are both right, in a way.

Cinematics can help establish bits and pieces of plot that would otherwise be tedious to game through. However, no matter how fancy graphics or cinematics are, they're nothing without solid gameplay. I imagine that Blizzard's success alone has already cemented these facts irrefutably. Also in this case, coke is right. If you liked the original Mafia and the second one is anywhere up to (or beyond) the first one's standards, chances are you'll like this one too.

Miggle's wrong on one point. Hype is cheap, but is important in marketing, and makes sure that people who anticipate your game aren't going to forget about it (like I've forgotten Alan Wake and Project Offset every now and then). I'm going to toss out an educated guess that the top three bestselling games at any given time are usually ones that have been hyped the hell out of. Of course, it helps if your game's actually fun to play if you want to maintain a good record, but there it is. Tell Nintendo to be more modest and cut the buzz and hype...and see where that'd get you with their corporate bigwigs.

As to your avatar, Miggle: give it up. EA's pretty much here to stay, and pocket boycotting is not going to shut them down. Besides which, L4D sells well with the added advantage of being fun for most of the people who buy it (including 100% of my buddies).

Did you even play Mafia? The only similarity between mafia and GTA was that you drive cars. They both played really differently. Mafia tried to be more of a simulator while GTA kept itself arcadey.

That aside, in both games you got in cars, drove around shooting stuff, got out of cars and walked around shooting stuff. That's similarity enough for most people.

Could be good.  The only let down with video games these days me thinks is how you interact with them.  Developers spend so much time making awsome looking games, with incredibly detailed worlds, but we cant actually interact with them any more than we could 10years ago.  By that I mean, the controllers or mouse and keyboard.

I dont exactly want hooked up to my video games like the matrix but something like what the wii is doing, but, well, better?

klthnxbai

Edit:

To put more simply.  The games have progressed, but how we use them, hasnt really.
