Started it up my PC this morning and my extra case fan on the front was blasting at full speed. It then gave a message of "cpu fan failure or low setting".  Shut it down right away after seeing that.  Is the fan fubar?  Not sure what brand the fan is, didn't have time to check since I had to get to work.

Here's my specs if that helps:

ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard
AMD 4800 x2 processor
2GB Corsair XMS2 ddr2 ram
NVidia 7800GT
Creative Audigy 4
Freezer7Pro
I don't come here a lot anymore.

Well, is the fan running?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Do what I did, clean the CPU of dust (I noticed a 400 RPM increase which isn't much, but shows that it can cause problems) and reapply paste if need be.

I’ll check if the fan is running when I get home, at work right now.  Blow the dust out periodically, but I’ve never had my system flag me like that.

Don't worry... if it gets too hot the PC will cut power automatically....

as long as the fan is spinning everything is fine.. errors or no errors...

I had once plugged my intel stock cooler in on my motherboards casefan plug by accident,,, it complained about "CPU fan error" every time I booted... I used the PC regardless since it didn't really matter as long as it was spinning and putting out the same low temps...

Moved the cable to the correct slot a couple of weeks ago

Ok, assuming the cpu will be ok and I can just ignore the warning … how do I get my extra case fan to stop blowing at max speed?  Never did that before the warning.

Running fine now.  Furnace issue made my place pretty chilly last night and I think the fan just reacted to the cold.  Thanks for the help guys!
