Trying to connect to someone on remote desktop, they've done all they need to do on their side but I can't get it to connect from my computer. I'm running W7 so the app looks like this

I've read a lot of places you also need a password, but this doesn't have a password field.

We've tried an IP from cmd and one from www.whatismyip.com but neither worked.

RDC rarely works. Use VNC.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Never tried RDC, but VNC is great.

(putting it on your brother/sister's computer and moving the mouse around with it is always funny, especially as you can hide it so the interface doesn't appear to them )

Meh it is a pain in the butt tbh...

Even with Windows Server 2008 it is a bitch (you'd think server software was pre-config'ed for this)

I have given up with the server I am doing for my school/work atm and the entire office is on standby untill I make it work >.<

Try logmein.  I'm a complete idiot when it comes to this type of stuff but logmein works really well and is incredibly simple.

Apparently it's not supported on W7. setReflected: This function is not supported on this system. (120)

i am a champion of rdc.  it works well as long as you configure it right.  you have to make sure the client has tcp port 3389 open.  also on the client system, right click on my computer, click properties, and click the remote tab... make sure the box is checked that "allows remote connections" to be made to the computer.  and of course you need their ip addy or computer name, and a valid windows account on the client machine to connect with.  (preferable administrator, or at least a member of the 'remote desktop users' group).  If you are trying to share their screen, then you need windows remote assistance which is a whole nother ball game.

or use VNC.
