How can I make a non-network printer networkable?

I don't want to put the printer in the same place as my PC, I want it in another room (where my router is).

Is there any kind of USB to ethernet adapter that I can use to plug my printer into the router? and would that work properly?

Alternatively I could just get a 20metre extension cable that goes from my PC to the printer, but I would like to be able to print even if my main PC is off (with my laptop for example).

There are these mini printer servers. They're just RJ-45 to USB or parallel. Should be quite easy to find.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

You could connect it up to another computer in the house that's on the net work and then "share" it. Though I've guess you've already thought of that ...

Off topic, but,

Last night I finally managed to figure out what was wrong with my Printer not sharing out on my Linux server. I didn't get to bed till 4AM. Totally worth it.

But yeah, you'd want to look into either a network print server(little box that plugs into your network and printer), a second computer(old laptops work well, they're quiet, and for a print server stability isn't tooo much of an issue) ORR Possibly buying a new router with USB ports on the back for network drives and printers(I think Asus makes one for ~$50)

Yeah I have, and there is an old PC that is near the router that I could use, but it isn't on most of the time and I don't want to have to turn it on everytime I want to print.

Having said that though, the PC I would be printing from 90% of the time is the one I'm using now, and it's on most of the time anyway, so I wouldn't mind using that as a print server. So I might just get a USB extension cable, and use my PC as a print server if needed.

But the 10 metre cables don't carry the signal well enough, so I'm wondering if I should get a repeater.

Should I get a repeater or will I be ok?
