Just wondering can you change the settings on itunes to convert songs to a certain format and bitrate before they get added to your ipod.

P.s I hate ipods but £30 for a 3rd generation nano is pretty good going.

Well they're stored on the iPod as mp4 anyway. Or some mp4 protected variant.

Look under advanced, or in preferences, any imported songs can be converted to .MP3/AAC/most popular formats, and at a bit rate you desire.  Anything for iTunes sucks, because you get the stupid DRM on the AAC files, unless, of course, you have the iTunes hacks.

It's too bad the hymn project died off, that was really good software.

Negative, moves mp3 straight over, at least on my touch.

Also, I personally just create a playlist with the stuff I want on my iPod and set it so it just updates that one playlist.

So it does. My bad. Maybe I imagined it last time I looked ... which was probably more than a year ago.

I dunno if it's athing with the new version, but about a year ago(before I lost my shuffle), it had an option to "Convert to 128 bit AAC" so it converted and transferred it, my friends first Gen nano, and I assume any other ipod, doesn't have this.

I think it did it on those iPods (the conversion to 128bit) because those were/are much smaller capacity iPods and to save space on the memory capacity ...

Just found out it doesn't but there is a program called media monkey that does the trick.
