My spacebar mostly died on my keyboard. It will not work unless I hit it very hard and in the center of the key. Is there a way to fix this without buying a new keyboard? It happened suddenly and I never drink soda by the keyboard, so I have no idea why it will not function properly.

What keyboard? Have you restarted? Tried unplugging and then plugging in again?

Take the key off, check that everything is clean and working properly, put key back, hope for the best

Practice your kung fu whenever you need a space.

..But seriously, I'd take it off and see if the problem is visible.

I dunno how a hardware malfunction (as the OP states) can be fixed with a restart .

Replacing the keyboard shouldn't be that expensive, unless it's a G15 or those sorts of keyboards.

Keyboards do wear out, if cleaning it as much as possible doesn't work you may just need to get a new one.

I read somewhere that someone ran his keyboards through the dishwasher relatively often...Just set it to a gentle cycle and then let it dry out for a few days. I guess you could try that, if it's already broken anyways doesn't make much of a difference.

Its a KeyTronic USB keyboard, I'm not sure which brand. I got it for $10. I've tried cleaning it, and it doesn't work. However, I have not tried removing the actual key, because I'd heard its not easy to do with a spacebar. Is there a specific method to doing so?

Edit: It works now. Evidently it just needed to be cleaned multiple times. Thanks for the help.

Should be simple enough, lever it off. It'll most likely have two metal clippy things at either end, which you just slot back in.

I totaly strip down my keyboard and clean it every few months or so

I literally just tear the keys off, stick em in a little bag an throw em in the dishwasher.

take the sheety bits out, clean the inside, let it dry out and put it all back together again.

but my keyboard cost like £10, so if it breaks idc
