Man that's cool
Actually, the thing in the photo is an iPod Touch. I know we have members here who have weapons and Touches ...
What exactly does it do?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Calculates wind/distance etc as to know where to aim?Freezer7Pro wrote:

That's just a guess, though.
I personally thought Sniper's where meant to do all this shit on their own, though.
Fuck apple, and fuck the US Military if they need that shit, I thought they were cool

They do do it on their own. And if this type of technology did become standard for snipers, they would be using a highly specialized piece of technology to get the job done, not an iPod.FFLink13 wrote:

I dont think this was an Apple design product. Nor is the US military going to be using it ... more of a hobby thing, I imagine.Mekstizzle wrote:

lol, imagine being in a mission and your phone rings cause you forgot to put it on silent.
It calculates the bullets flight path. A bullet's trajectory is affected by wind speed, humidity, distance, speed... all sorts of factors... so this calculates how much to compensate for.Freezer7Pro wrote:

By the time you'e touch-screened all that in, you've had the chance to trial-and-error it all out.CrazeD wrote:

Not quite.
lol yeah or when u are about to shoot lol or if u have it on vibrate if it tips the rifle or messes up ur aim lolzObiwan wrote:

Thought the spotter told them all the information, just like the iPod would do and the sniper would only adjust his scope to the given information?SpIk3y wrote:

i really don't think the Army would ever use this.
Yeah, an iPod hanging out the side of a rifle looks stupid.MAGUIRE93 wrote:

Since this has been laughed at twice, here's the point of precision shooting: 1 shot. Only one.Freezer7Pro wrote:

Meh.
You do NOT need an iPod touch for ballistics.
You need, generally;
1) Proper Drop & Drift chart for your particular ammo & rifle combo (memorized, if your gray matter can soak it)
2) Good reading on windage & range (laser range, if you can)
3) barometric pressure and tempterature
4) Latitude & compass direction of fire, if you want to get REALLY anal-retentive with your math.
Now, if you're at a nice safe range;
1) Suunto X10-Military watch (altimeter, barometer, digital compass, thermometer ... and GPS. yes, real GPS on a wristwatch)
2) Ti-89 calculator with short and simple ballistics program written into it.
3) Ballistics charts for your ammo & rifle

Now i just need a US Army M110 Sniper Rifle
Missile > Sniper rifle. It even cooks whatever you're shooting at to perfection
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
Since when do hippies own guns?
