So I just ran out of HDD space, and I just started whoring Torrents... Coincidence? Yes. (also I make backups of my DVDs)

So I'm looking for a HDD, the one I was going to buy on Newegg just sold out, and I figure it cant hurt to ask BF2s their (It's?) opinion

Basically I'm looking for a 7200RPM drive, doesn't have to be SUPER quiet, but I would prefer something that is sort of quiet

Doesn't have to be 1TB, can be like 800GB or so, but only if that drive is vastly superior to the others as far as failure rate and what not I would like something large to put all my backups in

Budget is about $140 (USD)   I doubt it will cost that much but that's what I have in my super secret hiding place

GO!

(thanks in advance btw)

Whatever you do, don't get a Seagate, their larger hard drives have been failing recently.

I'm sure several people will recommend this.

Mainly the warranty. By specs and performance they are pretty similar.

Another vote for the Spinpoint F1. Even though I've had one fail on me () they're great drives. That's why I have 8 of 'em

I would prefer Western Digital over other companies, out of personal preference through experience with them. Samsung and Seagate make good drives as well.

Max, you are fucking ridiculous

I remember your F@H setup, please post pics of everything? (or if you did PM me)

So is it worth it to get the WD for the warranty?

Also, how should I backup my data?

I've never had a drive fail on me, but then again my largest is 500GB and I know you get into murky waters

Spintpoint pls

mine's been going strong for a couple months now, and the rest of the bf2s community can't be wrong.

Posting everything will eat up all the bandwidth challenged peoples bandwidth, so here's a linky to my trackr page. Since then I've shuffled the hardware around a little, but everything is there

I wouldn't get the more expensive WD drive. Chances are very slim that the drive will fail, and if it does, it most likely will do so in the first few hours. Paying more just for the slim chance that the drive will die beyond samsungs warranty but still within WDs doesn't make sense

Correct.

Do not buy Seagate 7200.11 's

Overclockers wouldnt refund with a different hard drive so they sent a new one and its going to fail again

Although I think the ES2's are alright.

I would recommend two 500gig's in Raid 0

NO! Raid0 is really only for a system partition or a work disk where NO data is saved. The chance of a disk dieing and killing your whole array is way to big
