Computer errors, browsers shut down, computer reboots...Fkin Virus?

Wtf?

Firefox wont open, I can't uninstall it, Opera opens, but shuts down with errors immediately after...My computer reboots after Opera closes...

I ran Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, AVG 8, Spyware Blaster, Malz Anti-Malware. They don't find a thing.

AVG DID find some 'tracking cookies' but my computer rebooted itself before the scan was finished...I tried system restore, hasn't helped with the auto rebooting issues...

ffs, how can I get rid of this virus if it is one?

Go into safe mode and run each of those scans again.

Can you tell us the error Opera was giving you?

It does sound like a virus, or memory problem.

Try disabling automatic restarts. I'm assuming your on xp?

1. Right click "My Computer" and choose Properties.
2. Click on the "Advanced" tab
3. Click on the "Settings" button listed under "Startup and Recovery"
4. In the middle of this box under "System failure" there is a check box next to "Automatically restart". Uncheck this box.
5. Now OK out of "Startup and Recovery" and "System Properties"

Now the system won't automatically reboot everytime it encounters an error. You should be able to get more info from these errors than just a reboot.

Check your system properties and make sure all your drivers are fine, update any if needed.

is anything popping up that says it will get rid of trojans on your comp... windows spyware 2009 or similar?
There is a program thats free called combofix... It's extremely powerful... run it at your own risk... and follow the tutorial...
I have used it twice on 2 computers and it has worked both times... but first... run in windowed mode like aus reaper said and run your spyware AV that you have on your computer...

forgot about my own thread

I did disable auto restart, but I turned it off via an option when i pressed F8 at startup, with the boot options (safe mode, etc) It didn't seem to work...

I'll work on this tomorrow and try your method Aussie, and check out that combo fix program, thnx guys.

i would start with checking all that runs in task manager and startup in msconfig - you can google every single process to see if its windows related or not, afterwards free virus scan from online and not the pc directly - see where that gets you and good luck ..... i have had a virus that disabled newest version of mcaffe and would not let me open any applications, install or uninstall anything especially hijack this and other helpful software

When things get this fucked up, it's best to just reformat. Back up your important stuff and just do it. It's not nearly as big a deal as some people make it out to be and your PC will feel like new again. It will take you maybe 2 hours to get everything reconfigured to how you like it and then you're set.

edit: If I were you I would do bootable USB stick and run a proper memtest to be sure.

I booted into safe-mode.

I tried running Malwarebytes and it crashed/rebooted.
I tried running Advanced System Care and it crashed/rebooted.

My AVG 8 install file says its corrupted right after downloading it to a flash drive and trying to install it on my computer. I'm redownloading now.

Ad-Aware AE install file wont install (Another corrupt error)

Spybot is running right now, and it has found one thing so far: Microsoft WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled

I've tried a system restore, and I still get the reboot problem.

I uninstalled Opera, but firefox wont respond when I click to uninstall it...

*Sigh*, what else...

On one reboot, Windows had to check C: for consistency.

I ran chk dsk /r /f over night and it repaired/fixed somethings....

I ran MemTest and it had NO ERRORS.

*I'll provide an update after I try installing AVG and Ad-Aware again*

nope....

its a virus, i would still try to scan using online virus scan.... see if that works, and checking for anything funny in task manager might get you a virus name and prolly a fix you can d/l to fix it

I took a look at that, disabled what I didn't need, still have all the same issues.

I chose the option "Diagnostic Startup" from the msconfig command, so no other processes are running that aren't needed by the system (So I assume) and I STILL have reboot issues.

As far as I know, the CD-key for XP has to match the one on the disc right? My legit cdkey for Pro wont work on a .ISO of XP Pro.

My memory and CPU are fine. I ran tests.

it doesn't have to be virus. corrupted OS has identical symptoms. either virus or corrupted OS.

I have seen a corrupted OS and even opening notepad could cause BSOD.

edit: Don't want to cause any panic but failing HDD can cause that kind of issues too...

I don't think the CD key is linked to the disc. You should be able to install XP using your .iso and then use your legit CD key to register/activate windows. I'm 99% sure on that.

I just found the .iso disk I made awhile go and I clicked 'Install Windows XP' and I get a message that says "The language of this installation of Windows differs from the one you are installing. The option to upgrade will not be available"

Just to clarify ('cos I misread it at first) - the ISO and the KEY have to be for the same EDITION of XP.

So, if you have an ISO of XP Home, you need a key for XP Home.

If you have an ISO of XP Pro, you need a key for XP Pro.

Actually, yes they will - they'll charge you for the media and postage, but, as long as you can prove you own a legitimate license for the software, they WILL send you a replacement disk.

That's why they tell you not to lose that funky sticker with the hologram and your license key on it!

Hmmm. BSODs are suggestive of hardware issues, not software.

(though they can be caused by either)

Test your RAM.
Test your CPU.
Check your voltages and temps.

I tested ram last night. 100% Pass
I tested CPU last week with Orthos 100% (I'll test again if it'll work)
All stuff in BIOS is set on Auto (I've altered nothing)

I tried backing up my personal file and I got BSOD again

I still have doubts about my PSU, could it be related???
