the HDD will be a pretty high concern if it starts acting wonky....

I totally agree with this one. Only one word and pic is capable of describing my feelings with them...max wrote:
SLI + C2D / C2Q is just a bad idea. You need an nvidia chipset. They suck badly

So then would it be better to go AMD and crossfire, or stick with Intel and just upgrade by getting a better GPU + CPU in the future?GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

Intel works well wit CF, because the Intel chips all support CF. However, to go SLi you need to get an nVidia chipset, which really suck nuts on Intel boards.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

So then I guess my best bet would be to make sure I get a mobo that is capable of supporting future GPUs/CPUs.max wrote:
Best thing is to just stay single card. By the time you'd need the second one for adequate performance it's cheaper and faster to just by a new card and trash / sell the old one
P5Q will support just fine a single card. The new ones coming out later this year are no exception... but Intel is swapping sockets this year meaning it won't support the new CPUs coming later this year.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

Next question- is the P5Q capable of that?
What mobo will, keeping the same (280 and E8400)GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

well the socket 775 is getting replaced by socket 1366 and later the mainstream socket 1160 so there is no S775 mobo that supports the upcoming CPUs.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

Duh that makes sense ha. So I'd have to get a new mobo and a new CPU when I upgrade...whatever. How long until those new CPU's come out?GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

They're out now. They're called i7 and cost $300.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

And the mobos cost 2-300$Freezer7Pro wrote:

I think he is meaning i5... it will be out when Intel says so.... summer maybe...CrazeD wrote:

if you plan to overclock, the Q8200. Q8200 overclocked will be better in future than E8400 overclocked.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:
So I was looking at the Q series which is what the computer nerd at my work recommended...which do you guys think is better - E8400 or Q8200?

Which ever one is cheaper. That's, of course, if money matters.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

E8400 for gaming.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

As stock the E8400 is better.
edit: I would get a E8400. the small cache of the quad will make it less good...
