So my friends computer is having problems, games crashing all the time for no reason (not being overloaded)

And it came with SP1 on the Windows disc, and I figure this should be my second thing to do (after updating and checking drivers) to try to solve or minimize the issue

I looked on installed updates list under Control Panel... but it wasnt there, so I installed it from the Windows site, and launched the installer, and it said I already have the update...

But its NOT under the list to remove, and I searched and everything

Is there a Vista SP1 uninstaller out there?

I'm also currently making my friend look for the disc to to a system repair, because we REALLY dont want to reformat...

But yeah, his mom might have thrown the disc out. *big fucking facepalm*

Sooo, yeah...

Anything on the subject of the Service Pack?

Couldn't you reinstall SP1?  Otherwise, I'd suggest installing all of the "urgent" Windows updates...

If he can't find his disk it's not really a big deal, it's the serial that matters more.  (The Vista installer is up on so many torrent sites...)

This is true

get an image and use Alcohol120 and burn it to a disc and use the recover feature?

Thing is I have to go home and burn the disc because I accidentally gave him a read only drive because i thought it was a burner... (when adding a drive to finish off the parts i was ordering from Newegg)

and when i executed the installer, a message just popped up saying its installed, I figured I could repair the install or something but no... apparently you cant

(or the version I got wouldnt let me)

A Vista disc slipstreamed with SP1 has no uninstall ability. There is nothing to roll back to.

Maybe I should have just used my Vista Ultimate 64 bit DVD and his DVD key on the install?

Depends, if his (your friend's version) is 64-bit, it should work.  Actually, do you have the retail version of Vista?  I'm pretty sure those have both x64 and x86 (32 bit, basically) installers on the disc.

Well if we wiped his HDD and installed my copy of Windows according to you that would work, which is very good...

However were trying to avoid a reformat, my question was (which didn't make any sense btw now that reading it), I cant use the repair tool on my Vista disc on his version of the O/S to "repair" Windows, can I?

SP1 makes Vista better, so I dunno why you wouldn't want that.

Windows 7 Beta works nigh flawlessly for me. I don't know why you wouldn't want that.

Guys... win7 is NOT very good idea for gaming... and with SLi or CF win7 is even more useless... its just a toy to play with atm.

Vista SP1 is much faster than Vista without it.

So Vista doesn't have the key differentiation like XP (Retail, OEM, VL) did?  Are you sure?  I was installing a version of Vista here at work to do some testing and the Vista key I had from our partner license did not work with the version of Vista that was on the disk.

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
