Here is the deal. I have a Dell XPS3. It has a P4 3.6, 2g ram, just put in a BFG9800gt, the stock PSU is 460w. Standard Creative sound card. Now when I play Project Reality the game locks up in about 3 minutes. The sound sticks skipping over and over. I have to reboot because ctl alt delete doesnt work, can't tab out. Tried new/older drivers and lowering graphics. Wondering if anyone has had this issue with Bf2 or any mod. Pretty sure temps are ok. 74C. Please help.

Have you tried reinstalling PR and/or BF2?  Does this happen in any other game, or only PR?

On my PC, ATItool actually caused a problem exactly as he described.

If you been using ATItool while playing, try playing without it.

Well guys. I have XP. Memory if fine and it ran 3dmark 06 fine. It's getting worse. Reg BF2 causes it now. But this time I got BSD. With error   nv_4 disp infinite loop. I did just replace my800xt with a new BFG 9800gt. Google has told me this error comes up a lot for different reasons while some fixes work for some while some do not. Probably a bad card. You think?

I have had this issue with many games with my last AMD build.... there was something funky going on with the sound card... just out of curioisity, try taking the sound card off.

A Dell 460W probably has some issues driving that graphics card. I'd try with a beefier PSU.

nv4_disp BSODs at least confirm that it's nV-related.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

min requirements say 400w. 12v current rating of 26amp or more. Thats with a core 2 x6800 extreme. I have a P4. 3.6
Dell PSU is tough to replace with a bigger one.

Plus I get crappy FPS before it locks. With all settings at high performance it still is only 40-70fps.

Well I ran tests from my utility partition. An error with my CPU fan. Said fan rpm was too low. 1280rpm/2500rpm needed.  Anyway the temps are good. Turned off hyper-threading. Haven't had a lock up since. But I feel that having a 9800gt I should be able to run reg BF2 with high graphics at 1280x1024. This is not the case. At those settings my fps is 10-20. Playing PR at med settings 1024x768 with lighting's off I get 15-40 at best. Hardly fun choppiness. Time to get a new machine, or build one.. or is there hope. Maybe time to reformat. God I hate doing that.

Just reformat, it could save you a lot of money if it fixes your problem.

Well guys I reformated and still get the infinite loop issue. Think I'm going to return the card. Problem still happens while playing PR or BF2. Could be a heat issue but temps are within norms. Time to build a new one or buy a Dell XPS 730. Not sure yet. Never built a rig.

why?  there are too many out there.  case, CPU in mobo, mobo in case, HSF on CPU, PSU in case, RAM in mobo, drives/HDs next, sound card/audio card, and finally the drive hookups and power hookups.  not to mention those damn case header things.  and you're done.

Because there isn't one on BF2s (yet)!

i understand your need to write an "official" bf2s guide; that's why i wrote that mobo guide.
