Holy fuck!
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I use my laptop for fucking everything in school. I can't stand having those piles of papers to hunk around in my bag. And if you're good- erm, not bad at typing, you type faster than you write. Perhaps not long-arse equations, but normal note-taking is faster.
i type pretty well, but when i'm in lectures, i'm not writting essays, i'm quickly taking down the most relevant points, figures, facts and diagrams.

It is 100% easier with pens and paper, it allows you to express and order your ideas a lot faster.
No, not really.
Someone needs to do some higher level education, first before commenting me thinks...
And the reason you don't think using a pen/paper is easier is probably as you say you use your laptop for everything, taking notes is much easier by hand and helps you to practice writing quickly and concisely, which is pretty useful when exam time rolls around.

I used to take notes on paper. Did it most of the last term. I then switched over to my computer, and things have just been so much easier since.

Yes, their point is, Josh needs it for university, lectures are a whole lot different than 15-16 year old school classes.

no, not really. You sit there, you listen to the professor talk.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Making fart noises and trying to peek under the girls skirts isn't the only thing that makes up school. In school you sit and copy what the teacher writes on the board. In uni you sit and listen to the prof, take some notes, then ignore said notes and read the book

I used my lecture notes quite a bit, but I suppose it depends upon the subject.

Everyone I know just sticks to reading the book. What subject are you doing?

Did do History, which tbh was very specific, often the paper questions were set directly by the lecturer so listening to their opinions on the subject was pretty important.
One modular in particular "De constructing History" (looking at how history is often seen only through the biases of the historian) was based virtually entirely upon the professor's own work, and publications so the lecture notes were a pretty useful...
Tbh with the OP I would still get yourself a laptop, because of course it will prove to be very useful. But I would still recommend that you keep a pen and paper handy in lectures.

I still fail to see the difference between writing and typing. Other than you actually being able to read what you've typed.

Does anyone know how well the HD3200 and the 8400GT GPUs compare up?

apparently even the 8400GS is better...so the GT should be a clear winner. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=268074

Vaios are awesome though, about the same as Dell for build quality but they are so much sleeker and sexier. Just make sure you uninstall the crapware that comes with it.
