Broke my mouse wheel!

Hey,

So I got kind of angry a few days ago, and smacked the mouse down on the mouse pad. It being an aluminum pad, it didn't really hit too softly! haha..

The wheel is on a plastic axle type thing, as you probably know already if you've ever looked at your mouse wheel, and I broke one side of it clear off... I know I could simply glue it back together with crazy glue, but I'm wondering, what would be the best way to fuse together 2 small pieces of plastic?

I tried a bonding thing, which didn't work AT ALL, now I'm thinking of super-heating the plastic with a soldering iron and melting it back together.. Would that work out? Or would I just risk messing up the plastic all together, without a chance of fixing it again?

Any suggestions? I'm using an older mouse wheel from another mouse, which fits perfectly, but the rubber is off of it so I only have the axle left to it. And no, unfortunately I can't just take the rubber off the broken axle and put it on the good one, it's like, tied onto the plastic wheel! God damn you microsoft!!

P.S. I know it's my fault for getting angry and breaking it. You don't need to tell me.

Any way I can buy this glue separate? What might it be called?

Btw it's not a track ball. It's optical, may not be the best thing in the world, but I got it because it fits my hand the way I like it..

Yeah will probably end up going with that in the end.. I've never used superglue before though.. So I figured there may be a better alternative to fixing it.

This is a good idea. It's superglue made specifically for plastics, how could you do any better? If you don't have any, go to a hobby store.

Or maybe a hot glue gun?

Hot glue has never worked for me.. I have a glue gun and sticks, but it just sucks...

No, that mouse is around $40 where I live. Why replace the mouse when I can simply either replace the wheel, or just fix it?

I was only asking for the best type of glue to use basically. The mouse works fine, and I'm happy with everything about it, there's no need in wasting money on another mouse when this one is still fine.

Just go to Wal-Mart and get the cheapest optical mouse they have. Then save for half a year and buy a new $40 mouse.

The cheapest optical mouse here is 4,90€ shipped. And that's in a fuck expensive country.

Ignore Freezer, he can get pretty douchy at times...

Go to hoby store, ask them about glues.
Best bet would be if you have a quality one near by (not just a big chain that employs random 16 year olds), bring the mouse wheel and as them what glue would be best for that plastic. Different materials, even of the same "type" sometimes like different stuff. If you get a knowledgeable guy he may be able to suggest something specific to that type of plastic.
Other wise what ever strong model glue you can find would probably work decently well...

How is the mouse wheel read? If the glue fails another option could be breaking off the other side, drilling out the center and heading to the hardware store to find some kind of pin or dowel that would fit through it.

That's a good idea, but it has a gear-like thing on one side, so I don't think it would work with a pin.

I'll bring the wheel up to a hobby shop if I can find one, at worst I'll try superglue, but hopefully I can find something made for plastic!
