Now when you mention it...Aluminium
Whats wrong with aluminium?
It confuses Americans with it's many "i"s.
Americans are way into 'i's. Just ask Apple.

I have steel chassis, the NZXT Lexa Blackline and I can tell you the difference in thermal conductivity between aluminium and steel has pretty much no difference in temps...
You can see I'm running some of the thermally hottest stuff on my steel case. No issues. It's totally other stuff that matters than the fact aluminium would conduct heat a bit better...
I know.
But, aluminium
does conduct heat better, therefore it
will have some effect - just not very much really.
If you're relying on your chassis to dissipate heat, your cooling job's not good enough. Ideally, you should be able to use
wood as a primary material.
I like SECC for its durability (if it's thick enough) and retro weight, but aluminum dominates chassis popularity (and variety). Ideally, if you want to go to LAN parties, you're probably going to be better off with a $1500 laptop job and its cooler...unless all your other buddies are rich kids with super high-performance desktops. With a laptop, you just stuff it into a pack, bring it in, whip it out and boom: you're done. For an extra bit of carrying, you could even bring your 22"-24" monitor and a meaty click-clackity keyboard to use instead (it's already a given that you don't want to frag with a touchpad).
Even if a desktop case is strong, some of these heavy heat sinks and video cards do NOT like to be woggled around during transport (thus, build/mod your own if you want PERFECT; vga struts), and who wants to disassemble/reassemble their PC all the time?
Or if you really want to blow someone's mind, use an old Apple for your case.
