I need a new hard drive and I'm going to try and OC my E6600 so I'm buying a CPU cooler. HD looking for about 500-750 GB.
Was looking at this and this.

Any reasons why I should get something else are welcome. And do I need to buy any cables etc. or are they included?
Also if anyone knows anything about my motherboard whether I will be able to overclock anyway?  (Don't know much about it; I'll do lots of research / read lots of guides when I come to OCing.) Any further information I will need to know?

Also will moving my games to a new HD with 32MB cache from 16MB make much of a difference to performance? Or is it not worth paying extra for the extra cache?

So, advice please?

Specs:E6600; Windows Vista Home Premium; 2GB gskill PC2-6400; 320GB serial ATA; Asus P5B-E motherboard; 640MB nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS

Thanks in advance.

My exams don't finish until friday so there will be no point getting it before then.

Get Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB with 32MB cache with that F7P.

Moving your games to drive with 32MB cache won't give you any difference in performance. Its just good for moving around small files.

You need SATA cable for the HDD. If you don't have one you'll need to get it.

Okay buy it on Friday or you're a pussy.

I have one, it's super quiet, and super cool, in reviews it's dropped temps by up to 30 degrees C. I never had a stock cooler on my cpu so couldn't tell you, but my temps never go above 40 in games and 60 on full load. Simply awesome.

If the F1s are back in stock when I order at the end of the week I will. Was looking at them but if I have to wait ages I'll get a different one. What would you reccomend as a second choice?

Edit: and which cables in particular? If you could link me to some that would be great

Since your range is 500GB-750GB, a Samsung Spinpoint 500GB with 16MB cache will do just fine. If the store doesn't have these either... then something with 32MB cache from WD.

go on the 2nd, instead of the first, get a 1TB Spinpoint.

that's what you're looking for as far as the cable goes, although there HAS to be cheaper ones.  i didn't really look.

Is red worth an extra £6?

Actually here is blue for the same price. [tech noob]Does the HD have to plug into the mobo and PSU or just mobo?[/tech noob]

HDD [SATA cable] MOBO
HDD [SATA power cable] PSU

oh and make sure you have a sata power connector free or you'll need a molex -> SATA power adapter.

So I'll need this. And a SATA power cable? Can't find any here. Am I looking in the wrong place?

What PSU you have? It is VERY likely you have plenty of SATA power connectors free already and not need an molex - SATA adapter....

I can't check atm, I'll look when I'm on my computer on friday. But I am pretty sure what you say is correct. Will that mean only the data cable will be needed?

you need to connect both data and power cables... you just don't need an adapter.

yeah, unless some already came with your motherboard.  usually they come with your motherboard.
