I goes slowwwwwww, are there any decent upgrades I could give it for up to $100? Or should I not waste my money?
Thanks.

There are things in life that are just too good to be true, and there are things in life that are great free.

This is not one of these things.

Unless you want to conduct experiments and see if dinosaurs really do exist I suggest not spending $100 on this.  Take your $100 fold it in half and wait till you have enough money to spend $400 on something that would at least be 5x better than that.

PS.  Where, How, Why did you end up with that for free?

Grandparents got a new computer, they knew I was into that kinda stuff.
Already formated it, but doesn't want to comply with my 19" widescreen. (Only does 4:3)
I can't find any older videocards (AGP) for a decent price though.

not that i want to go head to head against you, cause you are actually part of the tech team... but did you see the max agp speed?
i wouldn't even give this computer to someone that desparately needed a computer, they would hang themselves just waiting for IE to load.

Off of a fresh XP install its boot time is around 30 seconds.

thats my point... once everything else is installed and background processes, virus scans, and firewalls, 30 secs will be its best time.

I sold an Athlon XP 1600+ with 512MB RAM for 70€, to someone who came from a P2 400.

Boot time with Avira, defragmenter and all drivers the boot time was way under a minute. With a CPU ~half the speed of the one in his.

Computers ala Athlon XP are very usable indeed. They make for good backups, for when you are, for example, upgrading your main computer. A decent AXP with ditto graphics card can run BF2 maxed on a 64-man server. Not to mention running that server.

Computers don't have to be Conroe-class to be usable.

@OP: You can probably get something like a 7600 or 8600 AGP for semi-cheap off of eBay. Cards in that class would make a quite good computer out of that. Do get more RAM, too, 2x1GB should suffice.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

well maybe i am wrong.  /sorry

my sister actually had a similar build to that one not long back and everytime i hopped on it, it was like eternity for me waiting for things to load.  Hence how she ended up with one of my older builds.

Would the CPU bottleneck at all?
And I think the max memory is 1GB, which should still suffice.

If it is, as the specs say, a 2GHz AXP, it shouldn't bottleneck any of those cards very badly. If 1GB is the RAM cap, though, that's gonna hurt.

I had a 2.4Ghz w/ AGP7600GT and my CPU bottlenecked.. slightly.. you could probably overclock that to 2.5, maybe 2.8Ghz on stock cooling, slap a 7600GT in it and it'll play BF2 maxed at 1280x1024 and CoD4 with some graphics at 1280x1024 too.

A 7600GT on ebay will cost you ~£40. That's what mine sold for anyway.

http://shop.ebay.ca/?_from=R40&_trk … 7600gt+AGP D:
The most demanding thing I would play is BF2, and thats not that often anymore.
Games like Civilization 3, thats what I'm saying.
How about a 6600GT? 55$ a good price?

What the fuck is this C$ shit.

God. At least make up your own currency.

6600GT is awsm. Runs BF2 med at stock, and was one of the best overclockers of its time.

You aren't gonna oc an AXP to 2.8GHz.
A 2.4GHz AXP won't bottleneck in most scenarios with a 7600.
You can get it if you really want, but paying $50 for 5-year-old technology isn't exactly smart. You should check locally, there are some times good offers.

@ OP obviously you've just bought the GFX card (better than mine by far lulz), now i'd just get more RAM tbh, that with 1GB RAM and your GPU should cope fine with BF2, you'll get reasonable FPS on medium and shouldn't get any lag.

My specs are linked to in my sig (worse GPU, better CPU and 2GB RAM) and I use this as a main PC and play BF2 at 30FPS, so yeah, it should do you fine

Will that run on a 250W PSU?
Theres only one HDD and no peripherals, I'm thinking it should be fine.

Should be fine. If you're stuggling for RAM, I've got some here. Just pay the postage and you can have it. I have 4x512MB sticks.
