I have a unix assignment due in the morning one main line is holding me bck from completing my script
i want to search a certain position of a line and have not idea how to do it for example
parnit
sdifbskdfbsdisdfparnit
the grep command would retun both lines because it finds parnit in both of them
is not the same thing like something to specify to search from position 1 to say like 6 so it would return only
parnit as opposed to returning sdifbskdfbsdisdfparnit also

Ty in advance any quick responses appreciated.

You'd probably get a more serious answer in the tech section.

and Goonies how do you expect to help...you don't even know how to use Turing let alone Unix

Parnit, I suggest trying the tech section or a unix forum...you're not gonna get much help here, as you've already seen.
