Best web hosting service?

My mom's web host is pretty fail. It doesn't seem to have any spam filter for the email; she regularly gets at least 50 spam messages a day. This is fine on her Mac because Mail does a pretty good job of filtering it, but the Mail application on her iPhone doesn't seem to have a junk filter. As such, she gets a shitload of spam on her iPhone.

What are some of the best web hosts out there, especially in regards to spam protection? Something that uses shit like Barracuda spam firewalls would be awsm.

Use Gmail for your domain. If, you know, you can handle the whole Google reading your mail thing.

I wasn't srs about the GoDaddy. The whole we'll-take-your-domain-away-and-sell-it-to-again model doesn't suit me.

I myself would like to know what else is out there. Hosting sucks anus here, you can have $300/year hosts with 50MB and 1GB traffic.

I use Hostgator, it's pretty good. I like it.

It has several spam filter options and a shitload of mail options, but I don't use it for that so I can't really say how that is. Awesome hosting though, fast bandwidth, and fair prices.

Hmmm never had any issue with them, quite the opposite. That line would have worked with Register.com. Depends on your needs i guess.

umm, i just visited that website and was seriously considering paying that $25 except i got a popup with the "Ok/Cancel" trick when i wasn't even trying to leave the site. that's seriously legit?

I use slicehost.com. I do my own hosting, so I just pay for bandwidth/cpu/storage and do the setup myself.

I've long since used a "professional" service. But I'm kinda an ultra geek and know how to setup mail servers and shit from a linux command line. So probably not the right option for your mother.

How is hostgator in terms of spam protection? That's the biggest selling point for her right now.

I'm gonna try setting up Google Apps with my mother's email today when I get home to school, so hopefully she won't have to get a new host after all. I'd rather just route emails through that, since Gmail has great spam protection.

Because paying $25 for life probably means it's shitty hosting. Sorry, but that is how it is. I just read a bunch of reviews and most of them said their site was down a lot, or slow, or things didn't work at times.

Also, I'm using just over 2GB of space right now.

EDIT: And for $65 for 500MB of space, that's like a year for someone like GoDaddy, with way better shit.

GoDaddy's economy plan is $5, but you have to pay for 3 months at once... then every month after that. Or, if you go for the yearly fee, it's just under $60.

If you can't afford $5 a month, you should get a new job.

I had a VPS with a host called byethost. I don't anymore - but their free service plans are great for anyone who doesn't want to pay but will still have a reasonable amount of space, bandwidth etc.

I use fusednetwork for our business class hosting where we need strong PHP/mySQL performance, uptime, and tech support. Good choice if you need performance ... not so good if you have a lot of storage needs.

I also use dreamhost and ipowerweb. Both have very good email spam filtering services, and their web hosting is OK if all you want to post is grandma's recipes, but both have down time and major performance issues (I once waited over 4 minutes for ipowerweb to complete a small mysql call).
