Wood is a good material for the climate. It breathes in the summer, is easier insulated, as there is more space in the cavity. You get less condensation in a timber house. You need to fit trickle vents in a block house. You don't need another trade (brickies) onsite. It can be manufactured in panels in a factory and erected on site complete with wiring and plumbing.
Its cheaper, abundant, its vernacular. As in its a local product, used by local people to satisfy the needs in the locality.
A timber house wouldn't last a week where I live.  Plus I don't want to be sitting watching TV and hear someones turd slip down a pipe between stud work.

Big enough tornadoes will pretty much knock anything down. Wood = easier cleanup and lower building costs
Pretty much sums it up. Many anthropoligists believe that Indian tribes of the great plains were nomadic partly due to the fact that nothing lasts forever and that being nomadic not only helped in finding better hunting grounds but also avoiding Tornados. Pretty far out theory but it does make sense. Remeber their homes were Tipi's made of fabric and animal hides.

I live in a concrete house, this things as thick as a bunker And they're damn expensive, but you need it for the high winds (80-120km/h) that sweep by every now and then. We had a 200km/h thing once that was almost like a tornado, but invisible...since it wasn't a giant brown pillar, and it harvested the field next to my house and took all the dirt with it....it's a pile of Swiss limestone now....

Why are you guy's building Wooden homes in Tornado alley!?

Why, dont you have more protection if you changed from Wood>Concrete?
I mean if I see it on the news (that means mostly a big one struck the peeps in Tornado alley.)
The construction wood already arrived for rebuilding.
(this is for my university project)
Well if the people that lived in tornado alley had the intelligence greater than a diagnosed mentally retarded patient none of this would have happened. Results from inbreeding I would assume.

I find it amazing that we can put a man on the moon and find planets so far away they've likely been enveloped by the death of their star which we won't see till our civilization is extinct

Yet we can't make a building which can survive a tornado.
