Ya, I got a circus of problems going on, but I think I narrowed it down. My CPU can't hand 1080p HD

Details:

I downloaded a movie, full HD. It was in mkv format, so I downloaded VLC Player and it started up fine, audio was perfect...Until I got 30 seconds in, my cpu maxed out, the image became a jumbled mess etc etc.

I installed DivX 7, it plays the video perfect, it doesn't max my cpu, but there is no audio at all. I get a message saying there is an directshow audio codec code '8193' and I should download directshow codecs. So I downloaded AC3 FILTER 1.46. DivX runs, the codecs are there but still no sound!

I uninstall all that shit. I try out Combined Community Codec Pack with Media Player Classic and Zoom Player and FINALLY the video and audio work fine..BUT WAIT...the audio is OFF...FFS! I just cant watch it like that, so now...

I ran it using windows media player, the audio is off also, but if I play from the middle, or 20+ min in and start it back, the audio gets in snyc, but it gets out of sync periodically, luckily playing it back a few steps helped so I was able to watch it, not perfect, but it worked.

In conclusion, is there an audio/video codec setup any of ya'll use that work for you? Is there something I have set up wrong?

I seem to recall that using the thingies that come with CCCP you can sync the audio with the video - or rather, manually adjust the delay between the two. Look in the system tray, ffdshow and something else.

(Sorry, I don't have any movies or CCCP on this computer)

Just to throw this in here, the codec pack i use is called "Cole2k" and contains loads of codecs (not sure specifically which one's, i'm sure you can find out if you google it) but basically everything i try to play, I can. Works with WMP and VLC (I think anyway, not really investigated it much, but whenever i try to play anything in either of those 2 players, it works )

for codecs use ffdshow, coreAVC and AC3filter. Play with media player classic.

from my own experience you need an AMD at at least 2.5GHz though to play 1080p content properly

ffdshow, and AC3 filter came with CCCP, and it didn't seem to work with that either. CoreAVC didn't install properly, I got some kind of DLL error, I'll try it again sometime because of this reason:

CoreAVC is a H.264 decoder, which currently is much faster (at least ~30% faster) than the one in libavcodec (which is used by ffdshow, and therefore CCCP). If you have a slow computer that is having problems with H.264 playback, you can try using it.
It might help those of us with slightly dated CPU's

As for now...

Thanks for teh suggestion. I went ahead and downloaded it and it works pretty good! It was in sync for all the parts I watched. I skipped around from the beginning to the end, and it stayed in sync. I'll be using this codec pack for now!

Well, finally did it. Audio still got out of sync. I guess I COULD try one more thing...I could overclock my 2.2Ghz cpu to about 2.6Ghz safely, (I tried it once) but my FSB speed goes from 800Mhz to about 725Mhz, not sure if it effects much...
