My ghetto laptop, as seen here is having trouble with the screen, probably becuase it's a laptop and changing the screens on laptops to completely different screens isn't exactly normal.

Pics of what it looks like: https://i39.tinypic.com/2aifrrs.jpg

However, it's kinda... fuzzing, like individual details on the image are moving left and right, it's sorta strange. It does this from the moment I boot, so i'm pretty sure it's a hardware thing. If anyone has any suggestions to make it work, that'd be great Thanks.

it could be that the LCD inverter cable is loose.  try pushing around on the back if the LCD (not too hard) and see if it messes with the picture.  if it does, you can take apart the LCD assembly and re-seat the cable.  if it doesn't do anything, they try taking off your keyboard and re-seating the cable where it plugs into the system board.  have fun

lol good times.  at least the hard part is done already since you don't have to take apart the whole thing.  just make sure that cable is jammed in there, and tape that motherfucker so it doesn't move ever again.

Well, i took it apart, and everything seems perfectly stuck in, but it's still not working. Could it be that the graphics controller is only setup to output to a 1024 x 768 4:3 screen, and with anything else, it messes up and distorts like this?

Try setting the res after installing an OS. It's probably just not scaling correctly.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I did, i set it to the native res of the screen, 1280 x 1024, and it's not working.

However, i found this in rivatuner:

Could fiddling with this help? Or any other rivatuner settings for that matter?

(I'm saving my eyes and VNCing it right now )

I also noticed that the problem is only in the horizontal direction. Stuff moves backwards and forwards a few pixels horizontally, but stays in the same place vertically, if this helps.

1280x1024 is not a widescreen resolution.

It's probably either 1440x900 or 1650x1080

EDIT: Alright, so you have a fucked up res...nvm then.

maybe the horizontal refresh rate is wrong?  try setting the horizontal and veritcal refresh rate manually in that rivatuner option.

I thought so. What values do you suggest?

@ crazed, 1280 x 768 is a pretty standard widescreen res, lol

16:9 with 1280 isn't very usual. You get so little vertical space that it never got really popular.

But yeah, any other ideas? I tried the rivatuner scan frequencies thing and that didn't work

All the 17" widescreens at work are 1280x800, positive it's 768?

idk, it's a long shot, but maybe you can find the specs of that certain panel online somewhere...although i'll be surprised if you haven't tried that already.
