With my current setup (specs in my sig) do you guys think that I need a sound card?

The only speakers I use are my creative fatality pro series headset.

I read a review about that headset and it said to us EAX and stereo widening from EAX.
but I have no idea what that means.

When playing the game I dont have any problems, I can hear the enemy footsteps etc
but want to know if I am getting the best performance out of my gear.

What should my in game audio settings be?

Thank you/Karma for any replies.

A sound card will provide much better audio with analogue things (stuff that plugs into the headphone jack) compared to integrated crap-circuits. If you're happy with what you have now, there's little need to upgrade.

EAX stereo widening and other brand-name things are generally not much to have, they make the audio something it wasn't supposed to be.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

If you're ready to spend ~$80 on something that will bring you differences you will barely notice, get a Xonar DX. Best cards on the market right now.

thanx man, I figured it would not make a big difference but wanted someone else's opinion.

should I turn on EAX in my audio settings in BF2?

If your current sound circuitry supports it. If it doesn't, you'll get some pretty funky artifacts instead.

Try it.

If you have iTunes check the 'Sound Check' box to hear the difference between widened music and non-widened music. Once you go wide, you aren't going back!

You can hear the enemy footsteps?
I can hear from which direction and how far away.
So much more fun when You can that...

I can tell how close and which direction also.

I think I am just missing a small amount of bass
but I can live without that because I would have to sacrifice clarity with my setup.
