AMD publishes a new file this day, who includes the erratas of the newest AMD Phenom II AM3-CPUs.
Very interesting is erratum 379.

"DDR3-1333 Configurations with Two DIMMs per Channel May Experience Unreliable Operation"

AMD recommends to switch to DDR3-1066. A newer stepping of the CPU shall resolve the problem.

not again.... I hope they still can stop the current revision from going open market or the new PII is the fail for overclocking

I've actually noticed a similar thing on my PII 940. Running dual channel DDR2-1066 is unstable at best. Drop to DDR2-800 and it's rock stable and OCs like a champ

can you really blame them?  i thought anything over 800MHz was non-JEDEC compliant or whatever it's called.

ummm... 1333 has JEDEC specs... and thats not the only thing.... it should be able to run just fine at 1600 too... there is a critical bug in the memory controller...

edit;: so yeah you can blame them.... i7 is officially upto 1333 but works just fine with 2000MHz DDR3

Not everything above 800 is JEDEC like haffey said. I know the OCZ Reaper line isn't JEDEC'd and you have to manually bump the voltage on it to get the RAM stable ...

but the point is this has nothing to do with the ram... its cpu bug... it doesn't matter what ram u throw in it should be able to handle it like every other platform has so far.

they are doing a new revision to fix this.

like i7 uses DDR3. Its about mobo waht speed it can do. Wellk i7 works fine with 2000mhz DDR3 for example.

afaik
DDR1 is standardized up to 400
DDR2 is standardized up to 1066
DDR3 is standardized up to 1600

AMD has taught me to wait for several months AFTER their new processors go on the retail shelf. Hopefully this is the only bug for their new AM3 processor.

ahh i see.  i was thinking about DDR2 anyway, i got mixed up.  i guess they raised the specs on DDR2 as well then.

I had no idea about the clock speed. But that doesn't mean that every RAM chip is standardized, however.

I realize the problem is with the CPU, though. Perfect example of laziness in the design phase. You'd think that marketing a chip to people to get them off Intel, you'd strive to make a product that would work every time, all the time.

I hope they get a proper fix out soon and not just workaround (not use 1333MHz DDR3 that basically kills the overclocking)
